The agency scene is dying there because all the talent is being cannibalized by the tech/social companies there. The only reason that’s happening is because people don’t want to sacrifice the lifestyle by leaving and said tech companies usually pay better than the agencies. The work coming out of those companies is pretty ‘meh’. Publicis is primarily T-Mobile’s agency with a little Aflac and a pro-bono client. No growth happening there. Wexley and Creature shuttered their doors. POSSIBLE has a good reputation as a network, however nobody but the people who work there know what work they’re making. Honestly, your options are probably better in Portland if you like the prospect of living/working in the Northwest.
Also, Mekanism. Slow growth, ok work. They’re Alaska Air’s agency and they just picked up a bit of new business. Maybe knock on their door? 🤷♂️

Terrible scene! Just sad and depressing. Wexley and creature were the only bright lights. The giant tech companies there are turning the people into drones. Don’t even think about it.
CW OP I don’t see any other feasible way to pull it off. At least not until the fledgling brands he brings on start making real money / file for IPO. And that’s providing he can build a relationship with them that lasts that long.
That being said, Cal from Wexley is starting his own thing and trying out a new model. The Paper Crane Factory.
That’s true, but this might be one of those situations where it’s smarter to wait and see. Wexley was notorious for underpaying their people. Sacrificing quality of life to work for a quirky agency isn’t worth it.
CW1 Does that business model seem like it would be able to pay you a competitive salary? Seattle’s cost of living is on par with SF, LA and NY. Just something to consider.
I have no idea if the new business model will even work! From what I understand, the agency will only work with startups and they earn a certain share or % of that business to do the work. I could be very wrong about that, but that’s what it sounded like.
Yeah, I did hear the wages at Wexley were less than standard. But fun to work there. From my limited interactions with Cal, fun dude.
I'm working with a Wexley alum and from what I hear, the pay was awful and late nights were just the norm.
It sounds like the new shop is only going to work with freelancers? Has anyone heard?
