In the US and was subject to a 1yr overbearing non compete that was probably not legal. But the exit package included 6 mo wages, full access to office, EA, company email, technology support etc. Effectively garden leave US style. Just ratcheted down the expenses a bit and took it as a year off. Best year ever. I found you can live quite comfortably in a huge house on a Central American beach.

Left Accenture non-voluntary. But the package was good. In general enforcing a non-compete is on the ex-employer as they have to sue to enforce, which could easily cost more than its worth. But ACN held onto RSUs and wouldn’t release until non-compete satisfied, effectively giving them a way to enforce the non-compete. Then I would have to sue to get the money. I ended up going to work for the one guy that did sue and won.

Never heard of “garden leave”. Is that a country-specific policy? I do know that in the US, if you’re terminated for cause (fired) you pretty much walk away empty handed.

It is common in Europe but states like MA just actually made it law saying employers must add garden leave if a non-compete is required. So becoming more common in the US

Am presently on gardening leave. My company is selective as to whether you are put on gardening leave or have to work your notice - depends on contract at resignation and where you are going. Being paid to not work certainly has its benefits!

I just received an offer, and want to make sure I’m not leaving any money on the table. What is the typical wiggle room companies have for negotiation? What would be a good counter salary increment (in terms of %) that won’t scare them off, but allows me to capture as much of that wiggle room they have? (No defined compensation matrix or anything at this company) thanks!
