Any foodservice directors made a career change out of the foodservice industry? If so, what steps did you take?

Steps imply direction. Direction implies you know where you see yourself next.

Where are you trying to move to?

I haven't decided yet. I posed the question to get an idea of what areas other foodservice directors moved into. What transferable skills did they have that helped secure a different career?

I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼

Do you think there’s a glass ceiling for out gay employees? I’ve been with my (now) husband for the last two decades and had three positions. I’ve absolutely excelled in each, winning awards, exceeding goals, working well. But with each position, I’ve had difficulty getting promoted. I even took on the responsibilities of a senior director after his firing and I couldn’t get promoted. My handpicked successor — who I think is an excellent marketer — became a director almost immediately.

Hey all! I majored in journalism and spent a couple years as a reporter before pivoting into PR/comms. I’ve been in this career for almost 5 years now, but have been at smaller orgs with little grasp of comms/PR the whole time. I’ve had some successes, but no real mentoring. It’s mostly been me playing around with trial and error. I could use tips on getting noticed by more comms savvy companies where I could really learn the trade.

1. Dates: Many MBA resume templates (Wharton, Tuck) advise people NOT to use months and just stick with years. I just use years since I think it looks cleaner. What do you think?

2. Old Jobs: Going to leave off my first post college job (was there for a year). Any risks here? It's still on my linkedin.
