Any freelancers here? How did you get started? How do you find work now?

Been freelancing for a few years now! I started with Upwork and have pretty much stuck to it. Used to spend a lot of time applying for jobs, but now get invited more so I don't have to do as much hunting. Sometimes I get stuff off LinkedIn too but that's rare

I could have written your response word for word!

Upwork is a great place to get started, but they do charge a fee. Great way to at least get your foot in the door and start building a network and a portfolio.

LinkedIn, through my work connections, and via my website. It takes a while to get started. I would recommend starting while still working a normal job and then only quitting the job once you have established clients.

I use Upwork. It's been very very good to me and it's a great source of additional income. You have to start with low ball offer but when you build your profile and portfolio you will get more opportunities to charge more.

Moms from NY: how many weeks post partum were you on short term disability? I recently had a call with the leave team at my firm and was surprised to hear that typically STD after birth is 6-8 weeks, depending on the type of birth. My question is: anyone here returned to work before 6 weeks? Asking because I want to recuperate for 2 weeks after birth, then go back to work and use the remaining maternity weeks later in a year. I wonder if this will be allowed. The Leave team person made it soun

Currently an M2 in consulting with 8YOE (no MBA). If I am looking to interview for a role at Amazon for a Senior Program Manager, would that be an L6 or L7 role? Trying to gauge the total comp I should be stating to the recruiter.

Stay or go ? I'm at an early stage tech start up and gaining experience in an industry that I like. However, I am getting no formal training or sales coaching. Everything I've done so far (Inc. Targeted marketing and prospecting) has been self taught and I feel like I am lacking professional knowledge if I was to move onto a different company, especially considering that I am not involved in the full sales cycle.

My dad passed away 10 years ago.He was a “good”dad while alive (not the best husband). I spent lot of my youth/adult life fixing his mistakes after he died, which weren’t mine to fix. While I have tried to forgive him for myself, the relationship with his memory is complicated. Our family friends (husband and wife) who really were there for us in every sense after his death came to visit. That “uncle” is the closest thing to a father that I have. Today, I really wished he had been my father.
