Get a referral, stay patient, and keep your expectations realistic
When you refer, you have to answer few questions about the person like how well you know them or their work. If it’s a random person, people choose to not fill those answers in which case recruiters and others know that this referral is not that high priority. That is why when you try to get a referral, find a person who would be willing to fill those answers in your support.

It’s also pretty highly team dependent. I think consultants tend to expect Google/tech to have a kind of ‘standardized’ intake/desired skill set and that’s simply not the case. My advice would be to identify teams/projects that seem interesting to you and validate that with coffee chats.
