Guns, Germs, and Steel. It’s about tracing the history of why Europeans came to invade/decimate the Native Americans, and not the other way around. It’s kind of fascinating to see how geography has such a role in the rise and fall of nations, and helps to counter many racist views of history. (Ex. Europeans are genetically smarter and therefore prevailed)

Would you say summaries are as effective for self help books like "the subtle art of giving a fk" and other similar books? I feel the books themselves ramble on too much on a side story only to tell a point that could be summed up in a couple sentences. Or am I just not getting good book recommendations for growth/development on mental well being and productivity

My H1B visa transfer with EY has been approved. We have received the e-approval. Can I now resign or give notice at my current firm? The guidance apparently is to wait for physical copy of the approval before officially resigning. But that date is uncertain and I’m afraid I could get the physical copy a day before my start date or a week after that. I’d like to give my firm around two weeks notice and I am scheduled to start on 27th Sept. Thoughts? As usual, radio silence from my EY recruiter.

What do you think that the education system needs to do, to get young people to be better prepared with challenges in life? For example, I grew up in Malaysia, national secondary schools had home science lessons, where we learnt from ironing to cooking to carpentry to sewing to plumbing to soldering on a circuit board where we did individually or in teams. To me, these skills altogether prepped me with a lifelong ‘Swiss Army knife’! Anyone with children with ideas?
