I grew up here and public schools are assigned based on where you live. There are magnet programs in some districts for gifted students in upper elementary (around 4th-5th grade), middle (6th-8th) and high school (9th-12th). Greatschools is a good resource for school district ranks, but honestly, ranks don’t matter much until middle/high school, so I wouldn’t worry too much about your toddler, although a good preschool (ex. Montessori) may worth looking into if that’s something you’re seeking. Talk to neighbors, coworkers, friends, etc. to get perspectives on local schools as well!
Anything specific about Austin neighborhoods will be helpful
Same boat here buddy but in Atlanta. First step is preschool do private. Then you look at the public schools and chartered schools attached to your zip code ans their national ratings. 7+ for elementary. Your kids can only go to the public school attacked to the school zone your home is in. Good charter schools usually need to have availability of spots, there can be challenges getting into one. This is how far I have gotten. I bought my first home in the city in a school zone with a great elementary school 8+ and going to go for private prek and KG.
