No consultants. The path then goes manager -> director -> senior director (comp + responsibility the same as a new partner at B4) -> managing director

Yes. I like it here. Recruiting is tough, in part because we pay more if you are a top performer than two of the three MBB and all of the Big 4. One thing to keep in mind is that, unlike the Big 4, we don’t use a regional staffing model and staff the best person for a job. This frequently means cross-country flights for entire projects or entire years. Not sure how IBM staffs and wanted to make sure you knew this if you are someone where work/life balance is important. Culture is very sink or swim. If you’re awesome you will thrive; if you’re someone that needs a lot of guidance to develop you’ll progress much slower. The upside is that we also don’t have an “up or out” mentality, if someone is comfortable in their role we will let them stay in it as long as they are delivering. That works well for people who make enough to support a family at the manager/director level and have no desire for additional stress of the higher levels.

Home office doesn’t even matter. If you’re in the middle of the country you’re best positioned for shorter trips just because you’re halfway to anywhere vs. people on the coasts. Private Equity PortCos are often in random places, so it’s not like being based in NY (where our biggest office is) would make a difference. Btw, home office means so little that you don’t even need to live near one. I am technically mapped to an office but have only been there 3 times in YEARS of working with the firm. Engagements vary from 2-3 week diligence sprints to a year+. Generally, mine have been 2-4 months.

@A&M1 thanks so much for all of the info!

Awesome, thanks again

@A&M1 with staffing the way it is, how big of a factor is your home office? Also, how long are typical engagements?

@A&M1 one more question if you don’t mind me bugging you - what’s the typical “path”? Is it Analyst —> consultant —> associate —> sr associate —> manager?

Hi A&M1 and IBM I’m in a similar boat now. Would either of you be willing to Provide some guidance?

I have several law school classmates at this new firm so will obv ask them.
