Hi All. I am an Energy Engineer and 3 years of experience. I want to switch to a management consultancy because I think I would be a good fit for strategy consulting and want to move into ESG/Climate Financing. I would love to interview with your team if you’re looking to hire someone with this background (happy to share more via DMs).
The purpose of this post is to also ask for referrals so please let me know if I could reach out to you for that. TIA! McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group

I don’t mean to be vague but does anyone have experience or insights on if things are “better” as a black person working as a consultant or in house somewhere rather than in an agency? Any POV is helpful. For background I currently work at Ogilvy in a pretty junior role and I see NO ONE that looks like me. Peers or at the top aside from those in HR/diversity and in addition to dealing with the day to day reality of being a POC in corporate America, its hard to visualize a path to “the top”.
I’ve exercised on and off but looking to build a structured workout regime in the new year. To start off, do you recommend a daily shorter workout or longer workout every other day? Or any other cadence? TIA!

Okay so I’m a newly licensed attorney in a very conservative part of TX. I just got my first job offer and I was worried at first thinking that I was in “Trump” territory, but I tested the waters in my interview and spoke about police injustices and how prosecutor’s job is not only to protect victims, but also defendants from police injustices. I have to let them know by tomorrow, but thoughts on if this is a good career move for someone who wants to work in transactional work-RE or Bankruptcy?

I just recently got a job, which to me, is amazing. 120k salary, no real expenses other than living costs (rent and food). What is a good way to set myself up for success? My company matches my 401k contribution. Not sure about Roth or traditional. Trying to save up as much as I can because I am a little late to the game, late 20s. Any advice to someone trying to learn and catch up?
I’ve been on the fence regarding real estate investing. Can someone explain why not just do a REIT? I get the sense the maintenance costs plus not getting a tenant plus paying a manager to manage properties assuming you had more than 10+ would not be as efficient as just buying a REIT and letting that grow.
I like the idea of buying and renting property but I get hung up on all the risks involved and if the reward outperforms stocks.
Does anyone here follow the Financial Samurai blog? Is so, what do folks think about his numbers for "average net worth of the above average couple"? And how does that jive with the FIRE principles/mindset?
Can someone please help me understand back door conversions? I think I’m priced out of contributing to a Roth this year, once bonus hits, but I still want to figure out how to save that $.
We often talk about side hustles… the service industry is getting absolutely crushed. High end steak houses are paying $1k bonuses and $17+/hr bc they have no dishwashers.
My company allows after tax contributions that I've been leveraging for the last few years for mega backdoor Roth contributions. They just announced automated in-plan Roth conversions, and I called Fidelity to activate this automation. However, after setting it up, someone else at my company said that this is not going to be in my favor, as I regularly roll my after-tax into my Roth IRA. Is there anybody here who can help me understand the impact of an in-plan Roth conversion?
I qualify for Roth IRA contribution for 2021. Any tips on where to invest the $6k is mist appreciated. I know I will not qualify for 2022 so should I put money in 401k or Roth 401k? How to decide on which would work out better?
Do you all consider investment growth as a factor in your Savings Rate? Or, just the dollar amount saved/transferred?
How much is too much for savings? I put away almost 70% of my post-tax income into retirement accounts. Is there any reason why I shouldn’t do it that I’m not aware of?

👋 Hello! FIRE newbie here. I’ll admit I have no idea what’s going on and joined the bowl because I was intrigued by the title. After reading through the bowl, I’d appreciate any comments/DMs on how to get started.
If you save you’re taxed. If you put funds in retirement account you’re taxed. If you trade you’re taxed. If you get a bonus you’re taxed. If you breathe you’re taxed. Federal took my money , now state takes it too. Guys is there a course on how to pay minimal taxes by investing in certain commodities?
What is everyone's thoughts on SS? I did CPE this past week and the topic was SS and it got me thinking. You get the most bang for your buck if you delay taking it as long as possible but I wondered if I barista FIRE at 57 would 10 years of barista wages affect my monthly benefit?
FWIW I am 33 right now so I try not to get too attached to the idea of SS because so much can change in 25 years
Thoughts? I’d say it’s thought provoking but my 🧠 is fried https://ofdollarsanddata.com/should-i-max-out-my-401k/
