Any idea on how to establish a privacy law presence? I’m considering a CIPP/US certification, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to leverage the certification to find relevant work.

Are you at a firm that has a strong privacy law group? I’m an in-house privacy attorney and CIPP certified it doesn’t really mean much. The certification is surface level info and far less relevant than my law school privacy classes. I hire Privacy counsel that are well respected in the field. I’ve never asked them about CIPP certifications. There is good networking at IAPP events though.

You can become a member of IAPP without wasting time and money on the certification. Go to the knowledge nets and happy hours. Publish privacy articles and participate on privacy focused webinars through IAPP or ACC. IAPP also has a pretty big conference in DC although I personally prefer Professor Solove’s privacy conference.

Is this normal? Has anyone had experience with something like this. Afraid to advise sending these materials before doing my own ‘Fishbowl Research.’

Waiting to hear from an in house job and received another offer from a firm - it seems highly likely that the in house job will give an offer but would it be acceptable to reach out and inform them of this pending offer to gauge their timeline? Do you take the current economy into consideration when receiving job offers? For example you receive a good offer from a company like Meta/TikTok but are hesitant because they could be laying off soon or rescind an offer versus a lower offer at a more traditional and stable company that tends to be less reactionary with regards to layoffs? Not my current scenario but just curious. I would like to make a move from current employer but this economy has me spooked.

I am not going for concurrent filing since my wife will come here after 4-5 months. I am wondering if there will be any cooling period because of my wife’s late arrival to the states for filing i485 or we can file as soon as she is here. Contd.
