For those who get paid annual bonuses, is it better to put a portion of that into your 401k from a tax perspective (while still maxing out for the year) vs maxing out your 401k via regular paystubs over the course of the year? What’s a better strategy?

Wanted to share this somewhere!! Recently hit $200k net worth at 27 as a daughter of low-income first gen immigrants. I know this isn’t a lot compared to others here but it’s a lot for me!! I don’t have a super high salary (making around $100k/year for last two years for benchmark) but have been saving and investing aggressively since I started working in 2018. Other than higher pay (I didn’t become a lawyer to get rich 🤣) what is the benefit of working for BigLaw, or private practice in general? As a government lawyer, I make 6 figures, have excellent benefits, no billable hours requirements, more time off than I know what to do with (including mental health days), a pension, a 401(K), option to chose whether to WFH or not, no weekend work, no working before 8am or after 5pm. It seems like so many lawyers in private practice are unhappy.

Please vote for which you’d realistically / actually want (and why). Context is mid-30s for me, FYI. Either a) $800k total comp, but work 70-80 hrs a week and content / work you genuinely don’t care about, b) $500k and work you care about / want to do long term but still working ~70 hrs/wk, c) $300-350k work you care about and want to do long term, working 25-40 hrs/wk (so plenty of time for other hobbies, fam, etc). In all 3 (a,b,c) you’re not allowed to have another income stream / side gig.
