Any ideas on what OTS actually does? If I want to model a transaction, of course EY capital advisors is the optimal route but what other practices within EY can I keep fresh with modeling while...

What you want doesn’t really exist. OTS at its core is PMO that exists i transaction environment. We don’t model. Bval models, but they don’t work on live deals, mostly post close for tax support and purchase price allocation. What you want is to be an investment banker. Leave now before that ship has sailed for you

Done 3 years in OTS. Work primarily on large-scale Mergers and Divestitures for $20-70B deals. Usually involves PMO but there’s a lot of hands-on work to drive the client functions towards Sign/Close/Day 1. Lots of deck building, but I’ve modeled synergies and standalone costs, done data analytics, led planning workshops. Really depends on the project

Rarely does bval work on fairness opinions due to their riskiness. Also financial models are a bit overrated, they are usually there only to support a decision that had already been made

...maintaining a role in the transactions space

That ship has already sailed unless I go back to school. what I understand and correct me if I'm wrong is that Bval also works on fairness opinions in addition to your mentions? That's something, as you say, post-close that I'd be interested in

If you want to work in fairness opinions, you’ll have to go to capital advisors. Honestly, the experience you want doesn’t really exist within reach vat EY

I am in VBM. If you want to get dangerous with modeling and do it in a setting that will look like M&A on your resume, VBM is the place for you. The modeling we do is much more dynamic than investment banking But the comment that we don’t work on live deals is very fair. The vast majority of our business is back-end, compliance/regulatory driven work. We do have people that specialize in the business modeling side (as opposed to the valuation). That might be a good fit. But same caveat applies.

That said, we’ll bring in outside help for ad hoc work. Send the higher level modeling and macro requests to VBM or bring in expertise from specialized groups like TRE or TT if we need additional guidance on something outside our purview
