I have a permanent offer to do tax in-house for a bank but it’s to start in 6 months (when the current contractor at the bank finishes). My usual notice period is 3 months but I’m skeptical they could keep the contractor on and rescind my offer? Any thoughts?

In CA, if an employee has to call his employer the night before to see if they are scheduled to work the following day, do they need to be compensated anything if they are NOT called in? For instance, let’s say this person kept the following day open and did not make any plans only to find out at 9pm the previous day that he is not needed. If he was called in, he would not have the option to turn it down.

I quit my job in May due to burnout and I'm not sure what my next career move is yet. To pay the rent while I'm figuring things out, I'm considering taking on short term doc review projects. Reading these “passing the bar” Oscar acceptance speeches is bad enough but ending it with the following is just embarrassing (below is copied accurately from the post):

I sometimes dream about my cases and wake up and send myself a text or do a quick Lexis case search. Sometimes (often times) it’s totally nonsensical when I go back and look at it. But, occasionally, I strike dream gold. Anyone else write things down? Has anything good come from it? Someone once told me they bill when they do this. Little sketch.
