I can’t speak to the Houston office but it’s a very litigation heavy firm where people are generally very nice. Pay is market until around 6th year but very strict on billable hours requirements for bonus (it’s all or nothing) and they cut bonus / salaries for not keeping up with the time keeping policy (have to enter it within 3 days). Beyond 6th year it’s a black box system. Will never be a market leader on pay or bonuses. If pay is a huge deal for you it’s not the best choice if you have other big law options but if it doesn’t matter as much then it’s a nice place to work esp for a litigator. Generally friendly to female attorneys and have generous maternity leave, etc. diversity & inclusion & social justice definitely important to the firm

The senior associate salaries are not paid on a published scale (as with most v50s), but determined by a number of factors including work quality and reviews, etc. 1800 billable hours, next 75 can be billable or pro bono, last 125 can be pro bono, business development, etc.

And yes, if you don’t meet that you get no bonus. If you hit 2400 (2200 billable) you get an extra 20% on your bonus, but for example if you bill 2400 total but 2100 are billable you get the standard bonus (my understanding at least, never billed that much).

How do you deal with partners trying to get on top of you? (Not literally 😂) someone gets to be a “relationship partner” and you are the one to do the work. I don’t need anyone on top of me managing relationships while I do the work. How do you address it?

Is a JD a good move? I am currently a claims analyst for a top brokerage firm in NY. However I also want to attend law school as I think it will grow my career. Is this the right move? I plan to go into labor law (I.e. littler and Jackson Lewis) or an attorney for an insurance firm as a backup plan.

Should I decline the offer and ask to be considered for a higher role that better fits my qualifications? The offer I had was with a great bank but I'm overqualified for that. Its been hard to find a job because I dont have prior experiences.

What happens if you got team matched but then got rejected by HC. Am I going to put back into team matching for other roles? Or is this the end?

Hi Fishes, I need some help.
So I've got the offer letter from Genpact today, but I have to send the required docs and BGV should happen and then in 3-4 days they might send Joining/Appointment letter.
So my doubt is, shall I inform the current Consultancy that I'm rejecting their offer? Or shall I wait till I get the appointment letter from Genpact and then inform the consultancy?
It's already been 15+ days since I've joined the company via consultancy.
PS: I have just joined on 3rd Feb on C2H

Has anyone used a surrogate? If yes, how did you find them and would you recommend the experience? I really want kids and have not yet started trying to have them naturally but the idea of pregnancy and birth are absolutely terrifying me. I’m sure everyone is nervous about it but my fear is getting bigger and bigger and I just turned 30 so I’m hearing my biological clock ticking.

I struggle with inflammatory stomach issues as it is, and the stress has been piling up and making it much worse lately - I’m either nauseous or have no appetite (or both). Decided to take the time to make one of my favourite (healthy and vegetarian) meals tonight and it was just not appealing at all 🥲 I don’t think I’ve had a proper meal in a week and I feel terrible.

Best handbag / shoulder bag for work that is both professional and also convenient (e.g. can take work laptop, documents, food containers, water bottle)?

I moved out to the suburbs about 7 months ago. Between that and the pandemic I have lost touch with friends. I reach out as get “yea let’s hang” but when it comes to making definite plans, crickets. It’s been hard because work is so busy and I have my partners children around too. Struggling to reconnect now that ppl are hanging out again and I don’t get invited. Feeling super isolated and lonely.

Recalling my first onboarding meeting in-house with the c - suite. Thinking back now recalling that they would often mention if someone they are referring to is a woman. For example, "Oh we have these two women doing x, y, and z and they do it well, a well-oiled machine." etc. I was the only woman in the room. They did not mention when someone performing a particular role was a man but they did point out when it's a woman, happened about four times. Odd, no? What would you make of this?

My husband & I are relocating to be closer to family next year. I always assumed I’d stay in my current role until the move, but things at work have become horribly toxic. I can’t stay in this environment for 10 more months. I’ve thought about trying to find a job in the new state that might let me start remote…but that feels like such a long shot. Any other recs? I’ve been asked to weigh in on how to improve my firms parental leave policy. It’s currently 8 weeks paid for birth parent with an extra week for each year at the firm (up to 12 weeks total) and 2 weeks paid for non-birth parent. I’m in a major city, firm is a boutique that has been around a very long time. What would you suggest? Any studies or research you’ve seen recently on trends in parental leave policies also helpful. I’d like to have some sort of data to back up what I recommend. TIA!

Anyone have three kids and working in big law? I just found out I’m pregnant with no. 3 and it’s been a lot trying to juggle morning sickness, but based on my experience, I know this is only the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come. My husband and I are elated, but the anxiety of being a mom of 3 kids and working in big law is preventing me from truly enjoying this news. It would be good to know what it’s really like having 3 kids so that I can evaluate how long I really have left in big law.

Annual review advice?
I feel very secure in my long-term employment and am doing very well. I work at a midsized boutique with a generally solid culture. I’ve been described as “rising star/golden child” etc., glowing reviews. The thing is that I’ve had a tough year with absent mentors, low interaction/training (there are extenuating circumstances with my SA.) Do I mention what changes I need to see to stay here? Or just go along, accept my good reviews and bonus, and keep my head down?
