I can’t speak to the Houston office but it’s a very litigation heavy firm where people are generally very nice. Pay is market until around 6th year but very strict on billable hours requirements for bonus (it’s all or nothing) and they cut bonus / salaries for not keeping up with the time keeping policy (have to enter it within 3 days). Beyond 6th year it’s a black box system. Will never be a market leader on pay or bonuses. If pay is a huge deal for you it’s not the best choice if you have other big law options but if it doesn’t matter as much then it’s a nice place to work esp for a litigator. Generally friendly to female attorneys and have generous maternity leave, etc. diversity & inclusion & social justice definitely important to the firm
The senior associate salaries are not paid on a published scale (as with most v50s), but determined by a number of factors including work quality and reviews, etc. 1800 billable hours, next 75 can be billable or pro bono, last 125 can be pro bono, business development, etc.
And yes, if you don’t meet that you get no bonus. If you hit 2400 (2200 billable) you get an extra 20% on your bonus, but for example if you bill 2400 total but 2100 are billable you get the standard bonus (my understanding at least, never billed that much).
