Do you guys know good recruiters in DC area?
Hey guys! I wanted to share #HoldThePRess which is an initiative, inspired by #PullUpForChange and 600 and Rising, holding the PR industry accountable for recruiting and cultivating Black talent at all levels. The website with more info and to sign on in support is holdthe-press.com and you can sign whether you are Black or an ally. Also, we are planning on presenting the asks and demands to agencies in the coming weeks and will be sharing via the website and on IG: @holdthe_press.

There’s a lot to unpack here.
External will benefit from an internal comms person’s strong writing and project management skills.
You’ll need to strengthen aspects like media relations, digital/social comms, emerging media vehicles, developing comms that translate complex topics more easily for a broader base of audiences (than say internal, employees).
BUT, if you’re really looking for a 9-5, external comms may disappoint you. The nature of the job does require you to be a bit “on” after hours; unlike some internal/exec comms roles.
Very helpful. Thanks so much, VP. By 9-5, I meant figuratively, as my normal job. I do some political comms strategy in my off hours and would like to do more of that in my normal job. Honestly, the higher stakes of external is appealing and the reason I'm looking to move on from internal.
Look for companies that have large Marketing & Communications teams so you can move around both areas or be on cross functional projects. We def have these opportunities at Fannie Mae and are hiring.
