I always kind of cringe at the idea of learning an old, white man sport for ‘career progression’...
Judge much D1?
I’ve tried golfing and had lessons but I remained embarrassingly bad at it, to the point where I was told “maybe this isn’t for you”.
Being as bad as I was/am will do nothing to enhance my career unless my sole role is to be the designated sober golf cart driver 😂😂
My client VP is a woman and loves golf. But let’s keep generalizing. To answer OP’s question, I think it’s more recreational for her than anything else
I have been hinted on multiple occasions to learn. I’m a former athlete in a different sport and being told I would pick up quickly.
Director1 - I was a former athlete as well but golf unfortunately was anything but natural for me😆
We can’t all be good at everything but I like to think I gave it a few summers before throwing in the towel
Yes it can help! I tried and failed miserably. Different company then but there was definitely bonding over golf and I felt I missed out. Only genial in all make team so that made it harder. Can’t hurt!
I’ve thought about it, but most golf outings seem exclusively male, so I wonder if I’d be invited out even after learning. I am considering learning tennis though, lots of exec women seem to play.
But to answer your question, yes lessons help and so does drinking
E1, ask if you can join! If you’re decent, I’m sure they’d like having you come along. Really helps when you’re with a group of colleagues who are playing. Wish I had the coordination as it’s scenic and social.
