Those at big agencies - what do your project/program managers actually do?

There is a partner in our office that routinely discusses associate performance with other associates. For example, she will tell Associate A that Associate B isn’t performing and/or hitting hours, etc. Recently, I learned that she has been discussing “issues” she had with my work product two years ago (I no longer do any work for her). Is this something I should bring up? It bothers me that she is talking about me to others.

Any advice on transitioning out of law to anything else that pays around the same (180+)? I’m 3 years out of law school. 1.5 at a small law firm and 1.5 big law. M&A practice group. Too soon to go in house? I hate billable hours and have no life working 2100 hours a year.

Received a 15% increase from current firm, considering lateraling for 60%+ increase. But at my current firm, I love my partners, work is okay, WLB is good. Any advice? Any support/encouragement to still lateral?

I know that under 28 USC 1961, the calculation is the “weekly average one year constant maturity treasury yield for the calendar week preceding the date of the entry of judgment,” but still not really sure how to make the calculation.

Any tips on how to keep my plate full with work? I just moved from civil legal services to Biglaw as a staff attorney (9 YOE), and I’m looking for strategies on how to get work from partners. They know I’m new and I have gotten some matters to work on, but I find myself out of billable work by the afternoon (and today, by 10am). I check in with different people each day to ask if there are things I can work on, but what else can I be doing (that isn’t going to annoy the shit out of ppl)? TIA!

How do you tow the fine line between sticking up for yourself and not talking back to a partner? For context, our firm has seemingly started making a paper trail for layoffs and I disagree with some of the emails that I have received. I want to respond in a way that covers my own ass. M&A Hours Check. What’s your year end target looking like? Think about 80 percent of the firm’s group is not going to hit hours. Not sure how sustainable this is. Definitely have great leadership that are swallowing the brunt of it, but I’m curious if any survivors of 08 ever had a really bad hours year and still survived. Obviously M&A takes the brunt during these times, but are firms thinking that they want to be poised for when things return back to normal or are they about to let the ball go

What do you do when you follow a partner’s instructions to the T, but they end up criticizing your work product and by extension your competency? Do you politely push back or just take it?

How does your firm keep track of billable hours? Are you measured by month or year or both?

Is it normal to have a yearly requirement but get emails/phone calls any month you come in “short” (below the estimated monthly requirement to meet your yearly goal) regardless of whether you’re on track to meet or exceed your yearly requirement?

I feel like my billable hourly rate is way too low. I know I’m only a second year at a boutique firm but for some clients I’m billed at only $175. I also have an MBA - am I crazy to think my hour should be “worth” more?

Has anyone ever tried going for therapy without knowing exactly what they’re trying to fix? I don’t think I have any diagnosable problems (to my knowledge), but I get caught up in my own head sometimes and get bogged down with anxiety/ self-esteem issues. Trying to develop a more consistent healthy headspace. How have people gone about finding therapists (what do you look for) and has it been helpful? Bonus if you have tips on staying in-network!
