PE clients already understand how credit agreements work so you don’t need to explain the basics and can focus on finding ways to improve on the last deal they did. Process tends to be more efficient too — no decsions by committee. And repeat business means you build better relationships.

The experience on borrower or lender side can be quite different. Assuming you’re asking re borrower side work on LBOs, agree with A1. In addition, you get to work closely with leadership at portfolio companies and understand their business. I regularly work with both the CFOs and PE investors and get a lot more visibility on the business side than my counterparts doing lender work.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Agreed to serve as local counsel for another attorney in my firm (different office). Answered complaint and then the case fell off the rails. Turns out firm has a conflict of interest that was missed in initial check, client has been instructed to retain a new attorney, court has ordered us to withdraw and client to produce documents by Wednesday. I keep reaching out to the attorney who I am assisting to ask if I can file my withdrawal and for the name of the new attorney and nothing. (Cont.)
