Any litigators who prefer litigating over clerking, or the other way around? I’m senior at a major appellant-side litigation firm. My boss has told me that there is a clerkship opening with a federal judge that I admire, and with his rec I would be a shoe-in. I like litigation and the opps it provides to drive change in the law, but this opp could open up some doors and give work life balance. On the other hand, I don’t know if clerking might be boring, or frustrating reading bad briefs. Thx!

I was a career clerk for 5 years for two different District Court judges, it was great WLB when my kids were really young but the pay caps out low and it did get boring eventually…

like

It took me awhile to get my career on track after but I think it would be much easier/more options would be available if you have a solid foundation before becoming a career clerk.

like

Clerking is seen as prestigious and a big deal and will likely open doors.

I clerked for a federal judge for close to a decade. The hours were great, but the job got pretty boring. I litigate now. It’s more pressure, but more financially rewarding and exciting.

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

New/pivoting into HR! 👋 Currently working as a TA Coord with a little entry level work in HR Ops prior to this. Is there a SHRM link, reliable test, or method of shadowing the various parts of HR that will provide a sample of the work, thinking, and day to day experience of each group? I didn’t go to school for HR and therefore haven’t had the opportunity to sample HR Ops. vs. TA vs. Comp vs. Benefits vs. Payroll, etc. I know work experience is the best barometer, but what can supplement this?

What do you all do to make non-professional / personal connections? Particularly with the Coronavirus, and being in domestic relations, I wake up, go to work, work out, go home. So outside of law, my interactions with people are only at the gym given that my area is draining— particularly at the moment. Probably a good thing for now; but if we take coronavirus out of the equation, I’m interested what others in the community do to develop personal connections.

What is your outlook on the coronavirus situation if Joe Biden wins?

What’s a reasonable price point for our first home? We live in Denver btw.

Was thinking max purchase price of 800k based on research to get something nice/decent, 3 bed room, and in metro Denver.
