Not if they’re getting the work done
Why does it matter if your team eats breakfast at work? It’s important to remember that not everyone has the luxury of living within walking distance of work / a client and sometimes eating at work is their only option. For example: they might have to get up so early to catch a bus or train that it makes no sense for them to eat at home.
We’re all human and everyone gets hungry. As long as people get their work done, don’t make a mess and clean up if they do, it doesn’t matter. The brain needs food to function and when people are fed, they will be in a better mood, will likely focus better and be more productive. It’s a win win for everyone.
If you’re one of those people that doesn’t eat breakfast, because you’re not hungry in the morning or you do an intentional intermittent fast, that’s cool. Don’t subject those who work for you to do the same.
Just explaining the other side of the argument- it’s wrong to 99% of us but that’s the argument.
Any managers with staff that go to the bathroom???
What’s wrong with you, seriously?
Unclench man
OP: remember our mantra is flexibility. Did you miss that memo ?
Not at all. First thing I do when I get in is drink a cup of coffee and skim the news. Everybody takes a little time for themselves during the day at every level, we all work too hard not to and we’re all professionals
Over half my team does this. There’s even *gasp* a cafeteria at the client that serves breakfast to encourage this type of behavior. As long as they’re getting their work done, charging actual working hours, and not being gross (don’t get me started on kale smoothies), is it allowed to bother you? Live and let live, you probably annoy the hell out of them too for completely different reasons.
Damn right. God forbid they have kombucha. *gasp* Can’t believe this OP
The first thing I do when I get in is eat breakfast while reading news stories on my clients and industry. Not only is it productive time but eating at work (vs at home) helps me leave earlier and shorten the time of my commute
Don’t be that senior manager that whines about petty stuff like this.... just asking for your team to turn on you especially if they get in on time and get things done
Seriously this is the pettiest post I have seen on here in a long time. You have too much time on your hands. Mind your own business, go sell some work to keep yourself busy and stop being the office snitch.
I waste more time waiting for Excel to unfreeze
Soooo true, these “workstations” are poorly equipped with only an i7 7600U and16 GB RAM, also bogged down by all its bloatware background processes
Depends on when they leave.
Tch tch Sr. Micro manager ... not Sr Manager !!! Behave like a leader .. focus on the work !!!!
Senior micromanager, ahaha
If they get their work done with acceptable quality and within a reasonable time, I don’t worry about petty stuff. Maybe that is how this staff decompress from transportation stress (traffic, train, bus, etc). I feel that most (definitely not all) of people are more productive if they are given the space to be themselves and develop their own way to get things done. After all, we are a diverse firm with people from different backgrounds, ideas, etc and that is makes the firm great.
Keyword here is “petty”. As someone who eats breakfast at work, I’ll say get over yourself OP and stop being so petty. I guess it’s impossible to work and eat at the same time?
Depends what time they get in
This SM got absolutely roasted lmao
I'm so dead rn
We’re salary. It’s not like we’re stealing time from the company. And if you expect me to stay late, which I don’t get paid extra for, you better believe I’ll take 20 minutes to eat breakfast, chat, or even sit on the the toilet. 🤷🏼♀️
This is a waste of a post. @OP, you could have spent those thirty seconds doing something more productive, like eat breakfast. That being said, time for avocado toast!
It’s cute that you think if they weren’t eating breakfast they’d be doing something productive. We all mess around for a few minutes a day. And considering a majority of us work 10+ hours a Day regularly, I think we are entitled to waste 20 min eating breakfast
What in the world. I do this all the time. Helps me get to work more quickly and check email while I eat
