I’ve started working at this law firm back in March of this year. I wasn’t too familiar with the law field and was in school to become a paralegal. I accepted this position of being an administrative assistant at their firm and started to learn a lot of things that my major would cover. I work with 3 other people including two attorneys and one paralegal. Fast forward a few months now, I’ve started to realize that this firm may not be a good fit for me. M&A/corporate lawyers - what project/deal management system does your team use (if any)? My group has about 6 or 7 of us and probably 15 deals and 4 public company clients. We’re looking for a way to keep track of who’s working on what (not specific tasks but more like what deals, status of those deals, capacity).

Hi everyone, my firm (V100) is hiring a midlevel L&E associate for its SF office. Pay is market and billable hours requirement 2000. Please dm me if you’re interested.

Normal situation? I am a second year associate that lateraled to a hyper-specialized practice group a year ago. Since joining, I have only worked with one partner. The issue is my workload. Usually at least once a day I am stuck with no billable work, most often because I have just submitted something to the partner and she is reviewing. I am not on track to hit our hours target. The partner has not given any real negative feedback, just have anxieties about workload. Any advice?

How important are annual reviews? Sometimes I think they can be subjective and are based on how much the partner likes you. My evaluations range from far exceeds expectations to meets expectations. Do you have to only receive “far exceeds expectations” to be a superstar Junior/Mid-level and eventually make it to Partnership/Counsel? As I become more senior, I’m trying to see if this career is something that I can excel in. Or if I’m stressing and losing sleep over something I’m just OK at.

What practice group is the “easiest”? Easiest in learning curve, easiest in day to day, easiest to understand, easiest to be interested in, easiest work, easiest going interactions, etc.?

How do I care less? No intention of making partner. Here to learn as much as I can for as long as I can stand it. But I have panic attacks every f’in day.

Can it really take over a week to make a decision about whether to invite a candidate for a callback after a screener? Has anyone experienced this? The firm said I would hear either way so I’m not taking silence as a rejection but nervous as to why it’s taking so long.

First year associate and I feel zero motivation since I started work. I was driven in law school and I’m trying to find that drive again. Wanting to learn and be a good lawyer for some reason isn’t enough. I see myself just waiting for the weekend/deal to be over. Only plan to stay in big law for 3-5 years. Anyone else experience this?

Junior associate here. Almost a month since I started. Transactional group. I am still going days where I don’t bill a single minute. Is this worrisome? Sometimes I bill 5 hours in a day, but it’s rare.

I’m staffed on 2/3 deals, but they havent kicked off yet. Should I be worried?
