Hi,

I'm looking for some advice.

I'm currently a commercial insurance broker working in Dublin, Ireland & I'm extremely interested in traveling abroad. Hoping to go to the US.

I have four years of experience in large firms, I'm fully certified in Ireland, I have a first class honours degree business degree, where I majored in Risk Management & Insurance.

Is it difficult to find a job as an expat, are there many barriers to entry & what states would be the best bet?

Thank you for your help.

Any advice for a couple where one person runs really warm and the other has a cooler body temperature - how do you manage this while sleeping? I feel my body produces a lot of heat. My partner and I love to hold each other at night but post an argument yesterday, he pulled away and told me my body is too hot. I feel I’ll worry about this each time we cuddle now and it will ruin the quality of that experience for me. Would love other perspectives on how to think about this.

Came here to say that I wish I could fully express to my non-parent colleagues how much their support has meant to me. I can cover for them when they have stuff so they can unplug, but I feel like they will never truly understand the gratitude when they offer to do a task for me when my kid is sick, etc. Any ideas on how to pay it forward?

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

When pitching your group at a midsized firm’s services to potential clients such as PE firms, what selling points would you push for as to why you’re better suited than, or at least a good option over, big NY firms? Let’s see who remembers their MPRE. Just found a position at my dream firm I would like to interview for; however, I was also just placed on a deal where dream firm is the opposite counsel. I don’t want my current firm to know I’m thinking of leaving in case I don’t, so asking for a conflicts waiver doesn’t seem feasible. But the deal won’t close until next year, so I doubt the position will be around if I wait that long. Any advice?

Client wants to set up an LLC where a President gets 25% of the membership interests but contributes no capital other than his services. Governance is supposed to be handled by the vote of the members based on percentage ownership. It seems like the President is going to recognize tax on the value of his contributed services unless we structure his interests as profits interests. Would welcome anyone’s thoughts. Feel free to DM me.

What is a normal pay cut to go in house? For reference, I am a 5th year corporate associate making approx 250k base salary. I was just offered 180k base salary. Is it unreasonable to expect to be around my current rate which is “market” for my city? I don’t care about bonus or equity but know that companies place more value on those - my lifestyle/current expenses (this is short term - working on a big Reno) a higher salary so I’m trying to decide if it’s feasible right now or if I should wait.
