Any midlevels here? How often do you screw up? And how bad? Still new as a lateral and partners don't want to review anything, so keep screwing up. Also so busy, so hard to keep track of everything and have time not to screw up. Anyone in the same boat? 😔

4th year in M&A - Everyone screws up… when I do, I take responsibility for it (don’t acknowledge it though) and move on. There are certain things that people will remember (you have to make sure you don’t screw up with these), but the for the majority of them, people don’t care/remember. I think the key here is just to always make sure you have the important stuff on your radar and for the other things, if you screw up, is to learn to move on quickly so you don’t waste time/energy.

Funny you say this. I am a female too, but I learned how not to apologize from my fellow white male colleagues.

Senior here. Mid-level laterals get a lot of runway in my group. We expect quality work product and timely work, but we also understand the culture shock and that you’re still learning. Hang in there.

Hey, I am appearing for a pre-sales engineer interview. It will be a sort of role-play demo session, where the team will want to understand how I present, how I manage a room, how I keep my audience engaged and also your technical abilities when asked regarding the solution. I have a liberty to choose any data science related product. I am essentially confused as to what product to choose, and how to structure the presentation. I would highly appreciate tips and suggestions. Thanks

I understand they are different but in my job today, I handle both roles so can go in either direction.
Appreciate any input.

Trainee here. A senior came to my office that I’m sharing with the team paralegal and complained about a mistake I made last week when we were filing. Everything was explained in a very politically correct but firm wording. I don’t know why my voice started shaking and my eyes got wet when I apologised. I felt so ashamed in front of the paralegal and now I’m just feeling so stupid :(

Who lateraled this year (corporate law) and is going to meet their prorated hours?

When we’re all comparing/complaining about hours at the end of the year are we including pro bono hours in that total? I’m nearing 2050 billables for the year but I have another 500 pro bono hours that should be added on. At the same time, I keep hearing about all these people straight billing 2,400+. Trying to determine if I should’ve tried to pick up more billable work to stay in the middle of the pack (i.e. not interested in partnership, just trying not to get canned).

Advice re: office crush

I’m a junior and he’s a senior in the same group with ~20 people. He doesn’t supervise me, but we aren’t at our largest office, so we might still bump into each other awkwardly if things go wrong. We are both single.

I’ve been holding my feelings back hard. (He still invites me to group/office outings, so pretty sure he senses nothing weird.) I know it’s hard to find someone like him though, and I wonder if I really should just silently kill my feelings for him?
