Highly recommend the book ‘expecting better’ by Emily Oster. She takes a very data based approach explaining risks of commonly debated pregnancy “rules”. I felt like it gave me objective data to make my own judgment calls on some of the standard “just avoid X” from doctors and when needed ammo to defend those judgment calls from pushy relatives.

P.S. have never heard of Rosemary being on the banned list... is that a new add?

Are you Asian, Indian, or other collectivist culture? This doesn’t sound like a typical American experience, in terms of family being so involved in these decisions.

Yes I am.

I’m in mine now.. in addition to your list (though I’m pretty sure flaxseed and rosemary are fine in small amounts), any cheese/milk/juice that is not pasteurized, raw produce that hasn’t been thoroughly washed, deli meat, sprouts, high mercury seafood... I’m sure I’m forgetting stuff. I think for me the pasteurization has been the hardest to navigate. So much label checking. Like, Parmesan reggiano isn’t a soft cheese but it’s made with raw milk (and I used it for abt a week before I realized...). Good luck!

Thanks for the tip on the Parmigiano. Will check.

Asian heritage here as well. 1st pregnancy I was super cautious and family. 2nd not that much. When I knew I was pregnant, I kept away from drinking liquor, eating raw food (sashimi), no pineapple juice and raspberry tea until the final weeks of my third trimester. I still ate runny egg but not all the time. I refrain from drinking coffee, but you can still have 1 cup a day even nmn tea. I still try to be active to keep my health and blood pressure normal throughout my pregnancy (my first I don't do much and I ended up gaining a lot of weight and had high blood pressure to the point I'm having pre eclampsia). I am still driving too.. until i gave birth lol

You can still have caffeine in moderation. I gave up coffee for the first trimester only since it made me nauseous but I welcomed it back in with open arms around weeks 14-15 with each pregnancy. I just tried to eat better overall but that’s easier said than done when all I craved was milkshakes and crackers. I suggest talking to your doctor or midwife about what’s good to eat or not eat since family can be insane with all their “suggestions”. I do remember lunch meat being on the no list but I ate it sparingly when pregnant.

Do not eat honey

I thought it was only for infants too, but my doctor’s office told me not to eat it during pregnancy as well.

Lol are you me? My family is driving me up the wall too with the restrictions. My husband is keeping me sane

Unrelated to law, but need some advice on how to help a friend. One of my best friend’s dad is in the hospital in really bad shape. She’s home with her mom and siblings. I want to send food or do something for them, especially since they just found out they may have been exposed to covid when visiting their dad at the hospital (not by their dad), and they have to quarantine for 2 weeks. If I were closer I’d make food and drop it off, but they’re 200 miles away. Any ideas?

My principal approached me in the car pick up line on Friday to inform me that I’ve taken to many days off & school has just started. I took 1day off when my daughter tested positive for Covid, I had an doctor’s appt that had been scheduled 6 months ago to see the hematologist. Being that I’m anemic, current labs showed I need to have 2 iron infusions. I put in for 2 more days off to have that done. He told me in the future to wait until a work day! We done have any until December!!
