Sheer number wise there are slightly more registered Democrats than Republicans.. when you count independents it is essentially equal

From Midwest moved to Austin and spent a a lot of time in nyc over the years. Austin has some of nicest people you will see. Yes left leaning on social issues but more business friendly than most liberals. Good cost of living ratios and jobs at least up until recently were very abundant. Apple and amazing have thousands and thousands of employees here. Oracle and google have hundreds and growing. Property values rising fast so opportunities for good investments. Lots of nicer restaurants to go to. Food trucks have disappeared a bit Over the years and middle market priced food (decent Thai or Chinese or whatever) is a bit harder to find than nyc but you can.
Summer is hot as hell but not so humid. Rest of the 8 months of the year is beautiful. Pool in feb!?! Lots of outdoors based activities as well.

It's liberal enough you can live in the same fantasyland you do in NYC
Crazy how so many people are fleeing from liberal utopia (ie. California, ny) to Texas.....
I did not move there from NY, but feel like the timing of my move made my transition impossible. Moved there in November then traveled to New Jersey every week for work. Then the pandemic happened. So dating went from challenging to impossible. There are some great spots to go on dates (beer gardens, cocktail bars, etc.). But Austin does start to feel pretty small very rapidly. Kind of a monoculture, too. And an even more unpopular opinion: the city is not as liberal, weird, and progressive as you might think. Compared to the abject conservatism of the vast majority of Texas...yes. Sorta just seems like an overstated pretentious, snobby, hipster paradise. And really hot, too.

This is just Brooklyn
Only move to Austin if you are ready to settle down. Itâs not a big city and has nothing over nyc. Itâs only a compromise to live cheap and buy a big house with low property taxes.

Iâm originally from GA. MA for school. NYC 9 years. Different strokes different folks! I prefer Tejas to NYC
It was the best decision Iâve ever made.

New Yorkers would be surprised how nice and talkative are people here
I lived in Austin before I moved to nyc. Just depends on what your vibe is like I guess. Youâll definitely need a car to get around, itâs much hotter but Texas is a whole different world! Itâs the most outdoorsy scene youâd be able to get in Texas but personally I wouldnât move back. I much prefer the beauty of the northeast... and I donât love hot weather. The people and food are lovely though donât get me wrong, just not much to do
This. I moved from DC and itâs a great city but a slower vibe. Major acts donât come regularly, zero major sports teams. Not a bad city, but the major events are captured via Do512 and those are super boring. Iâm moving back. Super nice people but just too slow.

Howâs gay life in Austin? And Iâll need a car right?
Car is definitely needed in Texas even if you donât need it daily. Austin is known for its âgay lifeâ, but honestly not many people care. Austins vibe across the board is pretty flamboyant. But dating in the city has never been difficult nor have I ever been made uncomfortable with my partner on any of our date nights.
Austin one of the most fit cities in the country, if youâre interested it fitness youâll fit right in đ€
I moved to Austin from NYC for school and it was okay. As a POC I felt more out of place in Austin than I did back in NYC; I think it was my first time living somewhere that was more than 50% white.
Ha I just moved to NY from there. I would say you'll be fine once this COVID thing is over. Tons of places to go and a very young city.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and opinions! Much appreciated! đ
