Who’s working this Sunday?
Am so done with this job today 😭
Does IT audit generally pay more?
Yes! That was me. I ended up at a mid-size firm after Big 4 and I realized I was really good at technical accounting and had better project management skills than most people in my firm. However, when it came to actual accounting for variety of items, I didn't feel as confident. I ultimately decided to stay in public accounting for the flexibility but opted out of Big 4 - the culture in my office had become toxic and I didn't see a business case for me in my local office. Don't let the fear of the unknown stop you. Changing a job is HARD. However, if it's for the right reasons, it's worth it. The jobs becomes easier and easier as time goes by.
No, I never felt ready while at big 4. Big 4 thought me a lot in terms of business acumen, process understanding, and technical accounting. I feel better prepared to tackle a role in industry now that I have some experience under my belt in mid-size. If the right opportunity comes along for a Contoller position at a smaller company with upward growth potential, I wouldn't say no now.
Yeah I’m even afraid to leave the house these days
You learn on the job. Dw about it.
One of the perks of jumping somewhere where your future managers are former public is they have a good sense of what you know. In my current dept, 80% of managers or higher are former public and 50% of seniors or below are former public. Years in public range from 1 to 10+ across the group but it means management has a great baseline for what to expect.
With so many with the public background in mgmt, what's the WLB like?
Not really performance related, but I've decided to stay in PA for work/life balance. Outside of the busy months, the flexibility is insane. Even during busy season, I can pretty much work when I want. In private, you pretty much have to be working 9-6.
