I've been in internal roles. Sometimes co-workers can be far worse than clients, less responsive, more entitled and less thankful
I guess I'm really just looking for better balance. I'm a parent to young kids and without seeing a path to the next level, I think I want to transition to something less stressful that will give me more time with the family. Am I thinking about this wrong?
I worked for Deloittes internal strategy group. You are out of your mind if you think internal work is necessarily easier than client work. I worked more in that group than I've ever worked on a client engagement. We were always "sold out" so to speak so the work was unnending. The grass is not always greener.
Your clients may be the most senior partners in the firm which are typically not the easiest clients.
It probably varies by firm and by role. I have a colleague who works 100% from home, but she still works long hours
I skipped the whole client facing role and went internal right off the bat. It's nice not having to worry about all the extra that comes with client work.
What internal role do you have?
