Any of you quit without having something else lined up? I can financially support my lifestyle for 2 years without a job. Logically I know it’s not wise to quit before getting something else..... but I’m almost to my breaking point at my job and I’m miserable. Cried for about an hour this morning and I don’t know what to do.

When did you realize it was time to move on from your current role?

I did 🙋‍♀️ same situation. I finally hit the point where I was so overwhelmed I cried. Thought about it over the weekend and quit the next week. I’m not working somewhere where I cry and feel miserable.

I purposefully took about 2 months off and then started applying and found something pretty quickly.

like

I really did think about it though, and in my situation it wasn’t possible for me to get off the team I was on. So it was either to continue on or leave and after crying, it was time to leave

Following because same. I feel you.

Personally I’m giving myself 2 more months until my employer 401k contributions fully vest and maybe 4 months after that to get promoted. Then I’ll probably quit.

like

Gah I have one more year until my 401 fully vests. Yet another thing to consider LOL. I’ve been in your shoes where you’re not intellectually stimulated.. it’s an awful feeling, because you feel like you’re literally wasting away. Sorry to hear and I hope you’re able to find something more challenging.

Try putting less of yourself into your job. Do the bare minimum and focus 100 percent on getting a new job.

^ love that! 👏😂 so stinkin true

I was in exactly your position. 2 years of living costs in the bank. Hated the wlb balance at my job. Cried a lot. Quit without a an offer and it was a GREAT choice. It gave me space to completely slack on my last two months at work (what are they gonna do, fire me?😆). I started by finding a part time pro bono consulting project w an ngo because i wanted to do something i would be excited about and inspired by. And shared w my network that i was looking. I found a new job (that i love) relatively quickly, partly because i had the bandwidth and the energy to have those coffee chats to find the next great thing. I never would have found such a good fit role while still working like a lunatic at something i did not like. Good luck!

Are you able to take a leave of absence, maybe a sabbatical? That might give you the opportunity to plan your next move without completely jumping ship.

like

I’m currently on sabbatical - 10/10 would recommend!

Is a LOA an option?

I would love to take a year off to just… human. While my household could afford it, I worry about money and the future too much. But I did fantasize about it every single day during COVID19. (Still am.)

like

You can take short term disability with some paperwork from your therapist — easy peasy. Unpaid leave is an option after that as well. Look into whether your time served still accrues if you’re on unpaid leave.

helpful

The only thing I’d worry about is health insurance. Can you afford that for 2 years as well? If so, you save way more than me!

like

Probably could. I’m single and don’t have a family to provide for except taking care of my parents’ bills

Im literally to this point right now and also dk what to do. I feel like im rushing to find something else so that I can get out of here which may end me in the same predicament again.

Good luck! 🙏🏼

Thanks everyone for your insight and sharing your experiences. I may look into a sabbatical or LOA while looking for something new. It’s disheartening to hear how many of us are absolutely miserable at our jobs, but I hope we all find something better ❤️

I haven't gotten an official written offer yet, but after giving a salary range of what I'm looking for, the recruiter said that the typical salary is about 5-10k higher than what I said, so I'm not sure if I should even negotiate if the average salary is already higher than what I said I'm looking for. Any advice and tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi All, I have been in TCS for the past 3.5 years. I have asked my supervisor for promotion, he gives excuses of Band criteria and COVID-19.
Will my promotion to ITA happen automatically once I complete 4 years in TCS or will it have to be done by the Actual process of begging managers and HRs to get the promotion.
Additionally, if I do get promoted to ITA, how many months will I have to wait to resign.
TIA.

Hi! I’m a Senior designer (8+years XP) with also a short experience (<2years) in Product management and Team Management.
I’m in a recruitment process for a Product manager position that seems very exciting to me, but the company didn’t give me their salary budget yet. My question is: do you think I can pretend to a senior-level salary given my profile, like I’d do if the position was Product designer? Or should I think of potentially having to downgrade from my current salary?
Thank you all!

Has anybody themselves made a transition, or known somebody who’s made a transition from senior auditor to a not directly accounting related role, and maintained a solid income trajectory? Like some sort of business strategy, or possibly project management in another industry?
