2019 grad. There’s no way I’d go out on my own at this stage. I have so much to learn about my area of practice and being a lawyer in general that having experienced attorneys and a team to work with is invaluable. The hard thing about being a young attorney is that you don’t know what you don’t know.

If you have no job offers, then go with it. If you have job offers, then understand that everyone will assume you did not.

Well I apologize for making assumptions. I have watched many attorneys start their own practice out of desperation.

Seriously wanna divorce my wife who’s not necessarily a bad person but I feel angry about her all the time. I always have to fight with her over the small things. I feel she’s playing a power game and trying to take control whenever she gets the chance.

The only moment she steps back and be the person I want is when I get really angry and she can sense it. Why do I have to do this every time to get peace?

No kids, but even I am not afraid to divorce, I don’t feel it’s worth it!

Any exit option from an insurance defense firm?
I don't want to do litigation but people around me recommend two full years before moving.

I overheard a small law firm owner saying he will never hire women because the last female attorney he hired ended up being pregnant, and left the firm immediately after her maternity leave was over. How is this kind of discrimination still going on? How could we address this? One thing I can think of is mandatory parental leave regardless of gender, but I doubt it’ll ever happen in the US.

How do I find local attorneys to pair up with on cases? I’m licensed in an absurd number of cases and practice in debt defense/bankruptcy. So far, in all the states except my home state, all I’ve done is debt defense because with the 341s, it’s a little trickier than just sending local counsel. I’d draw up the plan and the attorneys in other states handle the more local aspects such as court appearances. I’m not asking how to get the clients, do a bankruptcy, or ethically split fees. My firm recently moved me to a new practice area. The partner who I have worked with for quite some time does not have enough work, and she does not want to be in a supervisory, teaching role. The firm moved me without having a real conversation, and the practice areas are like night and day. On one hand, I am extremely grateful to have a job. However, I am afraid that this jump could stunt my career since the new area has few exit opportunities. Any thoughts on how to proceed? Leave my firm?

Hi all, question about a senior partner at my firm. He is constantly messaging me late at night about non important things. He went off on me about minor issues in a draft I completed. And while he is on a case with me, is always eager to pass blame onto me, when he has been working on the file as well. I haven’t had issues with any other attorneys at my office. I’m definitely ready to leave over it. Am I being reasonable?

Corp associates: have you ever had a firm’s online application require a writing sample? If so, what did you submit? Currently, I am a partner at a LATAM boutique firm and we are interested in working with US companies that come to do business here.
What would be the best way to advertise/make ourselves known to them?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance fellow colleagues.

Guys! Little old me managed a negotiation on my own and managed to get an increase from double digits to half a million. I’m so proud of myself. Especially after I only took this job after leaving my old toxic job after just two months; in which I was told I was incapable but never actually given any support. I could almost cry but I won’t cuz I’m a thug 🙅🏾‍♀️.

Does anyone ever struggle ethically/morally with the kind you work you do? Reading through Plaintiffs’ injuries is making me feel super gross about defending our client...

We have our yearly reviews coming up soon. I’m a 7 year insurance defense associate and have recently taken on the firms practice in a new state as the only attorney licensed in that new state (in addition to the other states I practice in for the firm). Also, I took on the new state because I was moving to that new state and my firm wanted to find a way to keep me on long term. I want to be made partner within the next year otherwise I will move on. Thoughts on how to raise this in my review?

Is there a market for lawyers to add expertise In crisis management or reputation management? My goal is to counsel clients on how to respond to media inquiries without saying or posting something detrimental to a potential litigation while still maintaining communication with their client base. If so, how to break into that industry? Courses? Books? Certifications?

Contemplating jumping from insurance defense to claims examiner for Sedgwick. I currently like most people I work with but there is one unbearable supervisor. I meet my billable rqmts(2000) but it’s never enough. I’m up for partner but have no clients and no idea how to get clients. Despite being perceived as a valuable attorney, I know the client development weakness will become a bigger problem over time. This position comes with a pay bump, vacation days and wlb promise. Is there a catch?
