2019 grad. There’s no way I’d go out on my own at this stage. I have so much to learn about my area of practice and being a lawyer in general that having experienced attorneys and a team to work with is invaluable. The hard thing about being a young attorney is that you don’t know what you don’t know.

If you have no job offers, then go with it. If you have job offers, then understand that everyone will assume you did not.

Well I apologize for making assumptions. I have watched many attorneys start their own practice out of desperation.

Delta Gold Amex vs Alaska cards

Anyone have pros or cons of either? Found an offer for Alaska that has 60k + $100 statement credit + companion pass annually after $3k spend in 3 months. Delta Gold offer is as stated in their site. Preference would go to whichever one offers an instant card number to use, but I believe both of them do that.

Edit: am in SF with plans to take trips across US as well as up and down west coast

I wish there was a list of “Best Companies to Work for” geared towards EAs. Please share the companies you believe are the best companies for EAs. Companies that promote growth and development for their EAs and truly value the work that they do. At my last firm, I was burnt out and beginning to think I hated being an EA but then I transitioned into a senior role at a larger firm and I absolutely love it!

I started at a litigation firm around 6 months ago. I took a pay cut for the position under the direction that the billable hours would be much less at this firm. As it has turned out this is not the case and if anything my hours have increased.

I plan on sticking it out six more months to total a year before I move on. Is one year enough time in a position to make a move?

I just swore into my state's bar. Law is my second career (I'm in my early 30's). I had a clerkship in a criminal court lined up that was rescinded because of a COVID hiring freeze. I'm looking for a job as an associate somewhere, any practice area (though criminal law is my ideal area). Does anybody have any tips for a brand new attorney on how to start? I'm used to just sending my resume and a cover letter to potential employers from my time in my previous field; should I be networking more?

Just absolutely disgusted at the state some attorneys leave their cases in when they know they’re leaving a firm. I’m sitting here drowning in deadlines that a former associate completely ignored. Trying to triage cases from deadbeat outgoing attorneys is infuriating. Honestly, don’t be this person. This bridge is so completely burned my entire firm has soured on this associate and it will be known that their cases were left in disarray.

I moved offices in the pandemic for my husband’s job. I’m now looking for a new firm because my work is becoming niche in a part of my practice area I don’t enjoy and I am frustrated that I did not receive a merit bonus (slightly under hours but did 300+ NB to help clients with the stimulus which generated a lot of other work). Bad look? Note I haven’t even been to my new office bc of COVID.
