I’m interviewing for a lateral position and have a few zoom interviews with associates. How should I prepare for this 2 hour set of interviews? What kind of questions should I ask or be prepared to answer? Any topics I should stay away from (besides the obvious ones like politics/religion)? I just swore into my state's bar. Law is my second career (I'm in my early 30's). I had a clerkship in a criminal court lined up that was rescinded because of a COVID hiring freeze. I'm looking for a job as an associate somewhere, any practice area (though criminal law is my ideal area). Does anybody have any tips for a brand new attorney on how to start? I'm used to just sending my resume and a cover letter to potential employers from my time in my previous field; should I be networking more?

How does someone take a LOA or use FMLA? Do you just contact HR? How much do you have to tell them about what’s happening?

Just absolutely disgusted at the state some attorneys leave their cases in when they know they’re leaving a firm. I’m sitting here drowning in deadlines that a former associate completely ignored. Trying to triage cases from deadbeat outgoing attorneys is infuriating. Honestly, don’t be this person. This bridge is so completely burned my entire firm has soured on this associate and it will be known that their cases were left in disarray.

I moved offices in the pandemic for my husband’s job. I’m now looking for a new firm because my work is becoming niche in a part of my practice area I don’t enjoy and I am frustrated that I did not receive a merit bonus (slightly under hours but did 300+ NB to help clients with the stimulus which generated a lot of other work).
