Also senior level, and also struggle with this outside perception of my confidence
I personally feel like a lot of meetings are full of noise to begin with and I choose to speak seldom but thoughtfully.
I’m also an introvert and advertising hails extroverts and leaves most introverts to feel like there is something wrong with them
seem confident in my bi-annual reviews. I tend to take in information in meetings and process it by myself vs. being super engaged in meetings. I can admit that I have confidence issues as well. Often my fear is that my questions or statements have already been answered or said when I drifted off, or my questions sound remedial or too surface level. Anyone ever work through this problem? How'd you do it?
Keep being you. You wouldn’t be in the job if you didn’t deliver for the business or weren’t valued. Also an introvert and struggle with all the adland bluster.

This thread is very familiar to me. I’ve felt this way many times. Believe it’s an underlying anxiety disorder, lots of people have it inhibits behavior. Try to stay really focused in meetings and follow the discussions, avoid letting anxieties distract you. Think about your point of view and make it simply and clearly. Don’t get caught up in the often frenzied blah blah blah of those who are desperate to be heard. Concentrate on your breathing...often the nerves come from breathing too shallowly. Acknowledge your feelings, nothing to apologize for. If you don’t make your point during a meeting, take it offline with the person that needs to hear you.
You see it everyday in meetings. Sometimes I wonder if everyone else is on speed, with the amount of needless chatter that spurts from their cake holes. Unfortunately, the overconfident ones who talk too much are often seen as being enthusiastic, whereas the ones who don't like to make rash creative decisions are seen as being uninterested. We all know this is bullshit. See yourself as the voice of reason. Explain to everyone that you shouldn't try to solve everything instantly. Rash decisions are often bad decisions. And if people look at you like you're speaking a different language, maybe you should think about working somewhere else. Good agencies value introverts and extraverts equally.
Just wanted to show solidarity. Sometimes it seems like everyone just want to solution immediately...and to each their own, some people are good at that. However, we are still Senior and still doing the job. Though it would be nice to recognize different styles of solving problems.
Just here to say I'm the same. I feel most often people talk just for the sake of talking. I like to be a bit more thoughtful than that. But it does give off a skewed perception.
@OP are you me? I’m the same. I’m still working through it, I have my days. most times I just fake it and say things confidently even if I’m not. Because I guess half the time most others have no idea what they’re saying either 🤷♀️
Agree with comments, I do feel some people either need to talk more or be noticed more which is why it’s impossible to expect them to be quiet. Or maybe they want the group to notice their participation, who knows. I’m not shy exactly but if I’m presenting (or being accosted by budget questions), I keep a glass of water close by so I can use it as an excuse to take a beat. Breathing steadies your body and voice and I think affects confidence.
