Wow so I’m a first time people manager in industry (big company) and I’m in the process of getting one of my direct reports promoted. I am shocked that HR’s formal stance is that I have to jump through hoops to rescope the role to justify the promo instead of singing the praises of the direct report who is a rockstar. Theoretically I get the logic of “emphasize the role and not the direct report” but can’t help but feel disappointed that’s the way it is. Are all big companies like this?

Currently working as a due diligence analyst at a well known bank but looking to move to a front-facing role. I have almost 2 years of experience so fairly early in my career. I got an offer for a Transfer Pricing role at a big 4, not sure if I should take it or try getting a corporate banking/IM role at another Bank. Any advice? Is the transition from big 4 back to banking going to be harder?

Had a referral and HR phone screen for S&O Senior Manager position at a small Chicago based tech start up. Call went well and they asked my salary expectations and I mentioned $180K. Recruiter said that far exceeds their pay bands but would check. He just reached out and said “there is still a large gap in comp expectations. Despite that, are you still interested in the opp? If so let’s have another quick call to recalibrate”….what should I say on this call? Should I budge or is this a tactic?

Shared this in a comment thread on another post and want to get thoughts — I’m at 9 interviews for an M role at a startup (close to unicorn). The final loops were early this week and the recruiter reached out today to schedule one final interview focused on skills not in the job description. Should I just pull the plug?
