I feel like this could be worth the wait for 2022 🤤
Whats the move tonight?
I mean I qualify for stimulus and I'm just using it to go to Miami so yeah very helpful
Look at it as us spending it to help the economy. I just closed on a house, so I will be using it to pay the movers, pay the retailers for
New appliances, who in turn will earn an income and pay there employers who in turn will pay taxes. Its a win win.
No maybe they would have moved themselves instead if hired someone. That’s what most people do when they don’t have money.

I think the UI benefit continues to be too generous and a disincentive for people to return to work. It is absurd that people can earn more from being laid off than they can actively at work
They should have included infrastructure spending or a jobs program within this bill.
I also disagree with the payments to state / local governments

Except the demand curve is f*cked with due to the overly generous UI benefits. It isn’t a market system currently.

Please stop calling it a “stimulus”. It’s the furthest thing away from a stimulus when so very little of it is actually going to the people that need it.
It was another pork-barrel opportunity (using the deaths of half a million people as their reason- despicable) rammed through Congress; the dangers of having one-party control; red or blue doesn’t matter they’ll do the same.
Yes! Ridiculous that the top wage earners in society were ignored. They’re the ones who need it the most!!
Hard to believe anyone on this thread has really “struggled” due to the pandemic, at least monetarily. Accounting jobs have shifted to wfh fairly easily, imo.
The idea that $3,400, or $1,400, or UI benefits doesn’t significantly help or matter to you is ridiculous. Sure you may not be struggling to make ends meet or survive, but literally tens of *million* people out there are, and just because you’re not one of them doesn’t mean it’s not needed.
Also lol to thinking that state/local governments don’t need money. Do you know how much state tax and other revenue dropped in 2020? It’s easy to be against government spending when we’re all stuck inside, but one day you’re going to need that public transportation and law enforcement and parks and recreation back, and it won’t be there if the states go bankrupt.
I can say with absolute certainly my hometown was slammed by the pandemic due to the amount of typical income from live entertainment and tourism. According to the NYT article mentioned above my state was down some as well.

Firmly believe that it’s a harm to the overall economy

exactly, unless our stocks or real estate can make more than 20% gain, we are all becoming poorer
At the rate we are going the national debt will be 50 trillion in less than 10 years, 75 trillion in 15-20 years. This is definitely something that could destroy this country or at least drastically change it for the worse. Everyone seems to just ignore this and thinks it will never happen. Unfortunately it’s bound to happen unless changes in spending are made...
This is happening one way or another. I prefer the way where I get paid while it’s happening. Corporations have been getting bailed out for ever. Now it’s my turn. The people who turn this cash into capital assets will be well positioned when we hit hyper inflation, those who don’t won’t.
The whole time money should’ve been only directed to boosting production of the vaccine and bettering the distribution of it.
The “stimulus” is fighting the symptoms rather than fighting the cause of all the symptoms. We don’t need the government putting money into people’s hands. It’s all cosmetic moves to make the government look like they can help you but seriously, how does $3,400 over the course of an entire year actually significantly help you? An average of $280 a month during this pandemic. Also doesn’t make sense to base payments to people on the prior years wages. People had pay cuts in 2020 that hurt them but because their wages were higher in 2019 then they’re not getting the stimulus while me who is thankfully doing much better financially in 2020 than I did in 2019 am getting the stimulus when I don’t really need it.
We shut down businesses that won’t have the money they need to start up again after covid.

Don’t forget bailing out pension plans!
Chief
$90 billion to bail out failing Boomer pensions is a waste of money. If we're going to bail them out, retirees should take a haircut too.
Since they didn't give it all to me its being spent badly.
i find it interesting that people with good jobs/pay are so upset about other people getting UI payments while they are out of a job. having been on UI in the past ( a long time ago) it is not enough to pay rent and eat so the extra to hold you over would be great. I think some of the package is not needed at this time but i would rather have to much and it not bed used then to little. walk back some of the tax cuts to the superrich and companies and there would be enough money for everyone. but that is just my opinion not a confirmed fact.
