That's scary. Any reason why?

EY is amazing with H1B sponsorship. I worked for PWC for a year and I work for EY now. They also offered me 40% more than PWC for the same job, they make you feel valued and they get the immigration thing.

like

I love PWC don't get me wrong but they dropped the ball when it comes to my immigration and EY did an amazing job fixing it. This is my life, my career and I have worked hard for everything and no to me, for me they are not the same EY is better.

I'm pretty sure all the big 4s have very similar policies. The h1b process is pretty cut and dry. They either sponsor it or they don't. Some hr know more about the process than the others. If you are in a big city with a lot of immigrants, the hr will likely have more knowledge about it. But I have never had anyone telling me they are not willing to help. With h1b lottery, it is understandable that the firm might choose not sponsor if the chance of getting the visa is so low. Simple cost/benefit. I'm on h1b too and I'm constantly bothered by all the legal process. But so far PwC has been doing a decent job.

Doesn't sound accurate. You mean for the year I think...there is a limit/timing factor

I think a lot of firms have an unofficial policy now. For the H1-B there are only 65,000 spots every year (since like 2001) and more than 300,000 applied in the first week. A lot of firms don't want to pay to train staff only to have them have to leave the Us in the middle of engagements. Sucks but without a reform of the H1-B process it doesn't make sense for firms to sponsor and then have to replace all those people.

like

^ how did you move to pwc if you didn't get the H1B

like

Also, EY was real shitty at helping people find other offices when their H1-B fell through. We had 4-5 people on our team who didn't get it last year at EY and HR basically said "good luck" and didn't really help them if they had to leave the US. Can't comment on pwc since I got my visa this year.

Mean PWC is a great company to work for btw*

like

Why?? No logic in that decision ... Is it because of money?

it's true. Same thing for audit

Since when is audit out?

I know people in audit/tax/advisory that are sponsored. Doesn't seem to be going away in my office?

EY2 I had the same experience but with opposite firms. EY sponsored me last year but I didn't get the H1-B. I switched to pwc (for a significant pay bump) and our HR has been nothing but awesome about my visa situation. I was told at EY before I left that they would be reducing/stopping the number of new sponsorships going forward but that since I was already employed they would continue with mine. I think it really depends on the team. I don't think EY is better than the other firms across the board, or in regards to immigration. In my opinion the big 4 are pretty similar, especially in regards to immigration (except kpmg apparently).

I have a different visa under NAFTA that's for 3 years. Pwc sponsored me for the H1-B this year and I got it so I'll be changing my status to H1-B in October but my current visa would have allowed me to keep working even if I missed this year as well.

Can you elaborate more on how they helped your immigration more than pwc?

Glad you had a good experience EY2. I just meant I think that both pwc and EY are likely following the same trend of reducing/stopping sponsorship for new hires. When I was at EY I didn't get the vibe that ey was in any rush to hire a lot of people needing visas (they actually told me they would be stopping) though that may be a regional/office specific policy.

My sister is getting married in India in December and wanting to attend the wedding. But my visa appointment is in February. Even after I use all my leaves, I still need atleast 45 days (1.5 months) of unpaid leave. As per EY rules, I can't work outside USA. Did anyone go against the company's rules and figure out a way to work from India? Just thinking of all possible ways to make this possible! Thanks peeps :)
