Any other first years feeling like they are constantly drowning and doing their best to just stay afloat? Anyone previously feel that way in their first year? Feel like I’m dropping the ball at times

You feel like that all the time.
It's always something and when you get really good at managing it, you'll get more work! Just hang in there

Thank you. Yes that’s how I’ve felt in the last few months. Every time I feel like I get a handle something new comes along! Glad to know it’s not just me

If you are a first year not feeling this way that means you aren't getting work.

I feel that way too. But I think it’s better than not back to any work, and some of my colleagues are in that situation. I’m just going to take a longish vacation haha

That's the nature of law. You have to manage your self and mental health the same way you manage your client's matters
You will always have something to do.
Key us do it properly the first time and you'll build up a precedent data bank for yourself

This is very normal. You don’t stop feeling that way as you get older, but you get a bit more comfortable with trying to keep the balls in the air. It gets better, but the feeling never goes away.

Job offer extended but now some red flags… I was extended an offer today with a pay raise and great benefits. It’s in a field that interests me more but, now some red flags have come up. They voided my offer after asking for time off way in advance in December of this year & the pay that was discussed on the phone is different from my offer letter. I asked the recruiter to clarify and she said I must’ve not heard her correctly on the phone. I’m not having second thoughts… I was excited.

Question for the Biglaw Bowl: How common is it to take a pay cut when being promoted from associate to income partner? I had heard about this happening at some lower ranked V100 firms. But now that I’m more senior and my friends are making partner, it sounds like it’s a lot more common than I thought and happens at firms where I wouldn’t expect it. Does anyone here have any insight into this? How common is it, how much of a pay cut, and how long until your pay catches up to associate pay?

Has anyone successfully claimed that income from a NY big law firm is not NY income based on TSB-M-06(5)I (May 15, 2006)? I think that my situation meets all the factors necessary. I am going to claim that the income should be sourced from Texas—I worked out of the Houston office from time to time while there. I was in Texas for more than half the year.
