“Reflecting on and adopting the use of micro-affirmations would be a positive strategy to prevent microaggressions. Micro-affirmations are small acts that foster inclusion, listening, comfort and support for people who may feel isolated or invisible in their environment. Focus on action, not avoidance – create new good behaviours.”

Your assessment seems very accurate. Prefacing my comment with this:
I am a white person from Denver. I grew up here and am 36 years old. I try to be humble, open, and always learning. Please excuse any of my faux pas in pursuit of improvement.
Is there anything that could help? If so, what?
Sure! If you’re in a public, semi-social setting like a gym, coffee shop etc. reach out to the non white folks to make conversation or to “watch your stuff” while you go to the bathroom. It’s the little things that show who white folks share preference to and I’m sure it’s mostly unconscious. So yep, say hi :)
It’s just the Midwest… extended
You are spot on.
There's not enough diversity
Much better food scene nowadays compared to 25 years ago, suspect it's a demographic shift related outcome
Love it here but I agree as a south Asian. Big culture shock moving from Miami.
Tried to dm you but couldn’t
Got to follow this
I’m white
My boyfriend is 1st generation south Asian 🇮🇳 and I have a friend Fob who is as well. They wouldn’t disagree with you but would also have the attitude “who cares” both went to college in the Midwest. My boyfriend was born and raised there .
I am a transplant from chicago I’ll admit the food was significantly better - partly due to diversity.
FOB isn’t a slur to a lot of people
Policing others’ language is really ICKKKK
Denver (and Colorado/the Midwest), in general, is pretty homogenous. It’s probably our biggest concern, so we’re spending quite a bit of time visiting before moving. Hoping our hobbies (dance, skiing, hiking, music) will open doors for creating relationships, as well as the friends we have that live there already.
I wonder how many people would say that Denver has a “midwest” culture lol
Fellow south Asian here. I dont care at all when people make assumptions bc my race. If they make a joke about slanted eyes or eating dogs (Chinese stereotype but Asians are all the same to most Americans lol) then I just double down and get a laugh out of it. That does more for opening their mind and actually making friends than it does to be all defensive about it. No reason to feel hurt so long as people aren't physically harming you or verbally berating you
Agree, I like to ask if they've tried it (whatever "it" may be) when food preferences come up
What aspect do you dislike of it? Too white/generic in the people department?
It’s your value judgement that what you are saying is true. Regardless of whether anyone validates what you are experiencing. And btw, I would tend to agree with your perspective. But you are here. So either be here and adapt/overcome or not. You can absolutely do any you want.
Me!!! I’m actually considering moving to Texas 😂
As a single person 😭
