As soon as I got word that my daughter’s school and day care were closing I contacted one of the daycare workers and asked her to babysit during the one month closure. I am hoping she will keep my little one occupied while I’m working. Fingers crossed! Another option is to join with friends or another family from the day care and split the week. Each person takes one day to care for all of the children and rotate. It’s not ideal but could buy a few days per week of peace.
If schools are closed in your area, there might be some teenagers with nothing to do all day but babysit?
I thought of this but I am also trying to take social distancing recommendations seriously. We can take the kids outside if needed but I genuinely feel bad making someone else leave their home, get on the bus etc. to come help out. The few regulars we work with have senior family members they live with and we’re in a relative hot spot region. I could be overthinking this but I’m very conflicted.
I don’t have any advice but as a lawyer with a consultant spouse working from home together I can only imagine how much more difficult it would be with kiddos. Hang in there!
18m old, day care still open and we’re comfortable sending kiddo. Wife works from home anyways; my office not yet full WFH. It’s gonna happen soon I can feel it, that all three of us will be in it together. I am a night owl so planning on catching up work at night when kid is sleeping. Long lunch walks if feasible during day to entertain. Work during naps.
None of this is the answer to your question, per se. Just sharing my anecdote on this unprecedented situation.
If I had a team of WFH parents I’d probably genuinely discuss with them if the best time for meetings was after 8pm.
2 kids 4 and under, it’s not easy. We basically work around the clock because only 1 person can really function at most.
8pm-12pm is now the real main work window.
