Any pianists here? Considering getting a Roland fp30x. Thoughts/suggestions? I plan to signup for pianote and maybe some lessons as well. Ideas on a good starter digital piano as well as approach for online lessons or self learning are welcome. As for my current starting point, I don't know how to play any musical instruments, pretty much starting from scratch in my late 30s.

I got a go keys. Early 30s delve into music. It's a fun little hobby.

Idk of this helps but I took lessons as a kid. I do not consider myself a Pianist, but I play & can read music. My husband bought me a digital Donner DDP-100 for Christmas last year because I am interested in teaching my toddler son the basics. I love it! My son also loves just banging on it and with it being a digital piano I am not worried that he will break any strings.

I would take in person classes until you get the basics. Finger positioning is very important and it’s something online courses won’t really push you on. The electronic/digital piano you use doesn’t really matter too much. The Roland is good buy for starting. But personally I prefer the actual natural acoustics so do not enjoy digital/electronic pianos and don’t feel the same way playing them. But upright and baby grands are expensive ($4-10K) so start with that one.

What's pianote?

Mistakes are the learned lessons to a better career. But every time I have made a mistake, it seems like it is the end of the world. I want to hear stories...of a time where you made a mistake and your superiors did not freak out, but used it as a lesson for you. does that exist anywhere?

I have always taught my students that life is a path of actions and consequences that are a result of those prior actions; positive actions positive consequences, negative actions negative consequences. I change the vocabulary from "I'm giving you a ___" to "You're earning a ___ with your actions." I start my first day with this lesson and have frequent reminders of this throughout the year. This has always been a successful strategy.

I am teaching as an adjunct at my alma mater. I am focusing a class on life as an attorney and the different roles your substantive background can bring you to and tips/tricks/antidotes for survival. What are the things you wish someone told you as a 2L or 3L about life and law and your practice? Things to focus on or ignore? Lessons learned the hard way? Would love to crowd source bullets on this outside of my own experience (and my guest speakers who are unfortunately all male except for 1).

How many teachers set their own curriculum, meaning that you come up with everything you teach and assess? Beyond that, how many teachers are expected to change up their content almost every year? As a high school English teacher, I develop everything myself or collaborate with my (frankly amazing) coworkers. We are asked constantly to find new, modern books to buy and to develop curriculum around them (because our subject is more skill based). Wondering if other districts/subjects do the same.

I’m 24 years old and will make about 90k this year. Very happy with that and content with where I am now as opposed to this time last year. I understand it’s not all about the money, and I have a VERY good WLB that is non negotiable for me in my career, but I am curious at what point in your life did you stop chasing the money as much? Apparently more than a few of my firm's associates moved to other states during COVID and are now quitting because we are coming back to the office. The wierd thing is that my office is quickly replacing those associates with other associates that moved here (a large secondary market) during COVID and refuse to go back to their (mostly NYC-based) firms. Is this churn happening at other firms too?
