Feel free to give advice. This is my first position out of college (MS in CS), wanted to be in a more technical role but took the position to get my foot in the door. BUT slowly becoming a spreadsheet warrior 😂 Been trying to get into more technical roles (AppSec, Sec Eng, Network Sec, etc) since I know some coding languages, have Sec+ and experience using various tools but cant seem to get anything. I’ve worked for many companies involving creative traditional/digital artwork, but my last job threw my health under the bus, so now my current has very little creative work and work with databases..

My question is: what was the thing that helped you get back into a creative job?

Can a company change your sales territory (increased sales area by about 30%+) without compensating you? I found out today that my O1B application for the US has been approved. After losing my previous visa status when my agency decided not to renew it, thus leaving me temporarily unemployed and isolated in a foreign country during a global pandemic, I feel like I can finally exhale after 3 months of holding my breath and hoping for the best. If this is the only bit of good news all year I’ll take it. Onwards and upwards!

I joined an indie agency in NYC a few months ago. Nice and talented people, but their creative work is not outstanding. My copy partner and I felt like we could help them push the envelope, but even tho we try, they still like to play it safe... They “get” the ideas, but aren't willing to take risks. It all starts with the owners and more senior leadership... Any advice on how to motivate them without looking cocky or like we don’t appreciate their work?

I’ll start — one of the most inspiring books I’ve read is Stefan Sagmeister’s pitch book for The Happy Film. I’m not sure many people know it exists, but it’s worth picking up. It’s also super short, literally tiny, and a breath of fresh air. Especially lately.
