Any private school teachers here? I’m thinking about making the switch from public to private and am looking for pro/cons.

I taught in both and here's my input:
Behavior in private schools is much better and the parents seem to be more involved. Plus private schools where I am have a shorter school day and shorter school year.
Pay in public schools is higher and there are many more opportunities for professional development.

I’m currently in private after a few years in public. Each school is different. In my area, pay is extremely comparable to public school, but our day is about 40min longer as a college preparatory school. Overall, for me it has been the right decision.

It is! I know most areas are not like that. I did take a minimal pay cut to go private, but the amount of stress I lost was well worth it

My friend spent 15 years in a private school and was making $40k a year. She switched to my public district and made $80k right away and in 5 years has moved up to being VP!

Many districts in Texas do too!

Anyone really struggle with lectures? I find it challenging to do online trainings when I have to listen to an hour of a recording of someone talking over a PPT.

I always end up 2x speed, which helps, but even then I manage to get distracted. I find it way more efficient to read materials on my own.

If anyone has strategies to make things like this more bearable I’m all ears! 🙏🏼

Hay que insistir no solo para el individuo pero para ayudarnos a todos!

My school is a small rural school. We don’t offer many in-house electives. What’s happening is students are having to take whatever is there to fill their schedules. If they aren’t interested in the class, then it becomes an opportunity for disruptions because they aren’t interested. What are some electives you have at your school that are new, innovative and interesting for todays high school students?
