Chicago - I live here and love it. Lots of really good food options, you don’t need a car, safe if you’re smart about it, a good amount of activities and things to do by yourself, and there are nice beaches and parks. Denver might be another option. I’ve done a solo trip recently and enjoyed it, but you might need a car there especially if you’re planning to stay in the city and spend most of your trip hiking. You can get around that by booking hiking trips where they pick you up though (that’s what I’ve done).

I agree right now in the summer you got beaches open, world wide food options and public transportation to take anywhere. Also world class museums such as the art institute if you are into such things.

As a local Austin resident, I would highly recommend Austin! I’d stay around East 6th or West 6th for the sake of walkability (both super lively areas with good bars, restaurants, breweries and high foot traffic later at night). There’s a bunch of outdoorsy options to do - Barton Springs, the walking trails around Lady Bird, plenty of parks - plus Fredericksburg for wine tastings is a short bus ride away. Also, as a small petite female, I’ve had very few issues the last five years here with feeling unsafe.

Honolulu is a great place to be for food beach and straight chilling! Ubers and the bus will be fine for getting around the city, you just probably won't be able to get to north shore unless you find a ride. The weather and the people cannot be beat. Probably one of the safest options for places to travel to domestically as well.

This is the same reason I haven't traveled abroad nearly as much as I'd like.

Do Seattle and the northwest!

Vancouver BC and surrounding area is also a gorgeous trip. Can drive from Seattle, too.

Bay area should be a good idea i think!

like

Ya you don't need a car here , also NYC. Its fantastic!!

What about Charleston?

like

+1 to Charleston if you want to stay downtown, it’s a quick cab ride from the airport. You could take a cab to the beaches but traffic can get pretty bad on weekends. Once downtown it’s SO easy to walk around, there are pedicabs and normals cabs. Just get your hotel/AirBnB south of Spring street

This sounds like a “tinder” post not a travel question.

I have been all over. I have hit almost every state and 21 countries. After 10 years of travel most cities look the same. However NYC has something going on that I can’t explain. Wouldn’t want to live there but standing in Times Square at night is a memory I won’t forget. The food. The theatre. The museums. Even the park in the middle of all that chaos. If you are staying in the US it’s one I wouldn’t miss.

like

I love movies and maybe staring where so may are filmed. Or the Broadway shows. I don’t know but yeah NYC does it for me

Pretty surprised by the limited responses. Just a few others: Savannah (stayed at the Westin here a few times), New Orleans (easy walking/Uber city with culture. I’ve heard it’s coming back), San Antonio, Hilton Head, Sedona (can Uber everywhere AND take tours to big sites like Grand Canyon), Tampa (I haven’t done it without a car though, but should be able to)

like

Savannah is exquisite 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Different angle to this one… but as a petite female from Chicago traveling alone elsewhere… talk to your gay friends in Chicago and see if they have recs in other cities. I can PROMISE you that they know other gays in cities who can help show you a good time in whatever city you’re visiting. Having friends of friends in these cities makes it more fun, safer, and generally a better time.

SF/Bay, Seattle, LA or Denver

Same with SF/Bay lol

Chicago had great public transit I’ve heard!

United States is hard with no car. NYC , Boston and Oahu. You’ll meet people and get beautiful recs an hour or so away and then be bummed you can’t go. I’m a solo female traveler, if you feel unsafe I recommend taking some MMA / boxing classes - but just trust your gut and you’ll be fine.

Houston. It’s so hot here, no one is on the streets, so you’ll be safe 😂

Miami. San Diego. Most places in the US are pretty safe I think
