Work your ass off, be dependable and accurate, and play some politics. Then you will have positioned yourself for top bucket. Make no mistake, though: the politics don't matter without the others.

Take the VPs you worked with out for coffee or lunch. 1) Get them talking about themselves 2) Say how much you want to succeed and ask for advice - VPs have a surprising about of swing

like

@ Moelis - makes sense though, right? VPs are the bridge between the analysis/fun in the weeds, and the guys on the road. See everything.

I need help!!! Got an offer for Citi Private Bank at 110k for an Associate Banker (A1) position. Considering all the bulge brackets just announced 100k base for 1st year Analysts and that every year you go up 5k, that makes me feel like they are trying to lowball. I stupidly gave a salary range during the interview of 110-140k, cuz I was guessing, but I know JPM pays 130k base for the same role. How do I get myself to 130? First time negotiating, any advice appreciated!!!

After 3 years of dealing with the worst firm I've ever had the displeasure of working for, I finally landed my dream gig at a small specialty firm. The people at the new firm are all SMEs featured in and contributors to the most notable business publications in the world, less than 100 employees, better benefits, unlimimted PTO, doubled my pay and landed a senior role.

Keep looking for what you want and deserve. I'm happy to be forging a better path away from what I've had to endure.

Is there a job guarantee in MS and do they give a joining bonus?

I left a great team and high-visibility, high impact project with a client that loved me for a few more $$.

Had I stayed, I would have been festering on comp and constantly worried about my financial future.
Since I've left, I feel financially secure but listless and bored with a lame team on what I've discovered is a skeezy upsell.

Anyone else had to deal with this? Did you boomerang back?
