Looking for some advice on the following - I want to make a pivot back to client services, specifically advisory/consulting/transaction services. I have 4 years public accounting experience, and 3.5 years manager experience within the corporate controllership function, both technical and SEC reporting related (more technical than SEC). What roles would I be a fit for? Public experience includes tax and audit. EY PwC KPMG Deloitte

Ow is not even on the same tier with Accenture Strategy or S& in terms of strategy consulting(USA). They have a strong brand in FS though. To answer, you have a shot at any firm if you have the stats or and exp, just network and prep hard. Goodluck
Let’s take it easy on the tiers talk. They’re all good firms.
Three identical people could case at ACN Strat, S& and OW and get accepted or rejected by all three on the basis of the normal variability in performance.
One of our best partners spent time at OW, another of our partners recently left to join OW.
Two of our partners that I know of have joined ACN Strat. One of them was excellent.
It’s possible but I think you’ll be constrained. Even ACN strategy seems to only recruit analysts from top schools with strong gpa. I have seen people go from something not strategy relevant at a boutique to strategy consulting at a, I guess you’d call it, top 15 firm for lack of a better phrase (Lek, ZS, Huron). First, and probably most important, they developed a relationship with people in the specific practice /industry focus they were interested in for months, usually a partner. They then spun their non strategy xp to seem like they had some relevant exposure, case prepped their butt off, and prayed.
I don’t see MBB strategy happening off cycle personally
If you can get your foot in the door at ACN as digital then prove yourself you can always transfer to Strategy.
D1 - MC to strat transfers aren’t uncommon. I see a couple every year in a relatively small office. TC - strat is obviously more difficult.
Go for BCG! They’re taking tons of experienced hires right now and it’s relatively easy to get an interview as an experienced hire (tough to pass the interview though)
I know my current work experience isn’t aligned to strategy but was wondering if there’s any way to pivot from my current position. I’m only one year out of school and feel like my skill sets are pretty transferable amongst analyst roles but I’m personally more interested in the problems in strategy.
If you’re a year out of undergrad and it was a top-tier school and you have a good gpa then I think you have a shot at whatever you want. Just leverage your experience and demonstrate you’re capable
Yes, you can pivot if you spin your experience by focusing more on the strategy aspect of your role when interviewing
You never know how the interviews will go. Jobs are tough to secure at all top ~15 firms. Cast a wide net, including MBB. Don’t limit yourself and don’t put your eggs in one basket.
Digital consulting would push you to Accenture Digital. Applied intelligence for analytics, interactive for marketing, digital capability, etc. or some mix therein
