Any recommendations on how to break into an area where you have no network? Went to law school on the east coast, unexpected move brought me out west and now I’m job hunting as a new CA attorney and have zero legal contacts. 99% of jobs on linked in, monster, indeed and zip recruiter want minimum of 2 yrs experience.

There's no way you have zero network. Check linkedin and speak with alumni career services. You can make a network!

I was similar to you, I went to law school in New England and moved down south. I would start applying to jobs even though they might not consider you their ideal candidate. The worst thing they will say is no! I found my current job through a recruiter I connected with from a different job positing.

Struggling with the same thing but in an area with no jobs so I’m trying to find remote WFM that’s entry level. I’ve been looking for remote doc review for about a year now but not getting any bites. Not in CA though or anywhere with a desirable license. Network has fallen through so trying to make more new connections but I feel trapped at the bottom of the long term unemployment well.

Cold email people at firms and ask for informational interviews. Those help you understand their work and if you impress them, they might help you find opportunities or connect with others. Ask them for networking suggestions too and don’t forget how much lawyers loooove to talk about their experiences.

Hello everyone. I interviewed at Google last month and was rejected after the 2nd interview (non-tech role). I will definitely apply again after 6-12 months but since I didn’t make it to the on-site round, how likely are the chances that Google will reach out to me again in the near future?

I will also appreciate referrals at FAANG companies (non-tech business roles). My most recent role has been of an Executive (early professional stage). Thank you :)

Any thoughts on the IP litigation outlook in Atlanta and/or Charlotte? Looking to move but I’m not sure of the workload there. I predominately focus on patent infringement at my current firm.

Other than law school rank, what do recruiters/hiring partners care about most on a resume? Specifically for 2nd/3rd year lateral associates.

I was told by a recruiter that my non profit experience is not transferable to private practice because the firm would have to invest time in me vs someone who already came from a firm. I do employment law (non profit) about a year & I use to do deportation defense (trial skills) year and half. Is this right? If so, what can I do ? I’d like to go private and learn more litigation skills (then the limited experience) I have

Anyone have tips for asking for more than you think you're worth? Because of the employment market there's a job which is about a 20K jump for me but it's been open for a year so I'm pretty sure I can get something additional out of them. Would it be appropriate to ask for 10K above the jump? Or should I just count my blessings and leverage my ability to underprice other applicants

I'm considering whether I should try to switch practices to have more options later on.
