Any recommendations on “intro to HR” courses/trainings for someone new to the HR world? This will specifically be for someone who focuses on onboarding, but would also like learn about different HR functions.

While there a ton of great resources out there, I really found value in the one. It's a step-by step program and onboarding is definitely not overlooked, covered rather in depth. Good luck training with this person!

I think there are some good resources via Udemy etc, you might want to consider doing a certification down the line

I’m following this as well. I’m looking for this exact type of training. I don’t necessarily want to be an HR Manager/Director, but I’d like to expand my knowledge in the onboarding/HRIS functions.

Coursera is also a great resource. The platform allows you to audit university-level classes for free. This may be enough considering your goals.

I took a few Coursera courses when I first considered pivoting into HR. When I officially made the leap I went to a traditional university to upgrade and obtain certification.

I agree with the udemy and coursera suggestions. These are solid resources. I usually recommend coursera to my friends and co-workers.

I have to leave my job and I’m currently job hunting, but I just found out on Monday that I’m 4 weeks pregnant. Has anyone here started a new job while pregnant and then take maternity leave not that long after? (Assuming I start a new role 11/1 I will have 7 months until I would need to take maternity leave). Looking to hear about others experiences and any general advice. TIA!

Planning a wedding less than a year out and I’m stressed. How much is everyone spending on photo/video these days? I regret not looking into how much it would cost before booking the venue. I didn’t think photography was going to be $4000 average. People I know are spending $8-10k just for photos and video which I think is insane! Any suggestions? I don’t have connections that would do it for a lower price. Based in NJ. Looked at larger companies (e.g. George Street) but I’m scared to mess it up

How would you explain in interviews that your work was the level of a specialist/director even though your job title was that of a coordinator? The other factor in this scenario is that I only have one year of experience yet was given responsibilities that trusted mentors I asked would deem as the work for 2-3 people. I am an young professional trying to understand how to navigate this field! Appreciate anyone's comments :)

Does anyone have any resources for workforce planning processes or workbooks to share?

I had my PHR back in early 2000, then made a career change to a paramedic (I know, right). I called SHRM and they said I'm eligible to test again even though I only currently have 1.5 yrs of HR.

I purchased the online study guide and it seems that HR has gone in a completely different direction - more operations related than employee relations etc.

Did anyone find this online training to be helpful? I test in July, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - lauren

How is everyone handling the mandate and weekly testing?

Best job to get to transition into HR?

Does anyone know where to start in HR please?

My goal role in 5 years let’s say is Chief People Officer / People & Culture Director, etc.

My background is 12+ years in customer/client experience, coaching, sales, and account management. I’m finishing a Lv7 executive coaching course and starting a CIPD Lv5 people management course.

Any ideas on what roles I can start with? Don’t care if it’s a simple role, getting in with a good company is important.

Good morning,

Does anyone have a compensation consultant referral specialized in advertising?

What do you do outside of work, to keep yourself sane? This ain't the easiest gig in the world. How do you keep yourself in check.

Hi HR Team! I have a question for the group. I just signed an offer letter and employer is doing background check. I have a misdemeanor oui w/ a reckless driving misdemeanor . Is this generally acceptable. 1st offense, nothing else on my background. I am actually appealing my guilty verdict also, btw. Can someone put my anxious heart at ease while I wait on this to return?

Any advice for someone looking to transition into a full HR Generalist role from Recruiting. I’m currently a Campus Recruiter with about 5 years of HR experience (Coordinator- Higher Ed). I received my PHR certification in September 2020 and sitting for my SHRM-CP in two weeks. I’m having a hard time transitioning into a full Generalist position.

I started at a new company about 2 months ago. I joined during a slow period of work and going into the holidays has practically been nothing. However when I do need approvals on things or direction from my boss it is radio silence. I can not get a response to save my life and I feel as if people are getting frustrated with me because of this. It also makes me feel as if there is no urgency in my position or the company in general. Wondering if this is even the right company for me.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

If you have a conversation with your management and you express your not happy because of pay. Can HR force you to give a date to leave?
