Seiko, Orient for automatic, Citizen for eco-drive/quartz. Places like Daniel Wellington or MVMT or Shinola etc are just fashion companies putting out cheap, low quality watches. The first three I mentioned are actual watch companies.
Yes, agreed. Want to invest on a product made by an actual watch company.
Seiko
Vincero is fantastic in that price range. Looks a lot more expensive than they are - I’ve gotten many compliments. Check out the rose gold with black face. https://vincerowatches.com
Vincero, Skagen, seiko
Tissot is great
Frederique constant quartz watches are also pretty cheap if u find them on sale
Daniel Wellington, Classy and Old-fashioned.

$144
If you are willing to go up a bit in budget, Tissot held up nicely for me
Recommend Le Locle, good entry point to automatic
I have Orient, Tissot & Seiko. Happy with all of them to be honest. Really liking the Orient Polaris GMT white face right now. $310 during their Valentines Day sale - normally nearly $600.
Vintage Omegas from the 60's and 70's can be had for 400-500 in some cases, but it's extremely hard to get a serious brand for less.
Solid recommendation. Much appreciated
How long are the cheaper automatics supposed to last? I have a Seiko in a drawer that stopped keeping precise time after about a year. It almost seems like you should be spending well over $500 to get a decent movement or just stick with quartz if you want to spend less? Maybe I just got a dud?
steinhart watches are good as well - eta movements
