That’s a one way uhaul rental my friend. I did it and it was a nightmare but saved tons of money

I went with the UBox option in DC (it’s uhaul’s version of a pod) and packed all my stuff in it. Once it got to NYC, I booked piece of cake movers to move my stuff out of the box and take it to my apartment.
Did Richmond to NYC a few months back and if you go the uhaul route it’ll only cost like $400-500. If you get to pocket the rest of the 3k and are fine with the hassle, why not. But if you’re submitting receipts I’d look into a moving service.
I have to submit receipts, so probably will try to expense the allotted amount, but thanks for giving me an estimate of the Uhaul route! I really appreciate it—thanks!
I have seen movers in the 150-200/hr range, you’re better off starting with movers on DC side, have 3 pack then they’ll send 2 with the truck. If it’s all do-able in under 15h round trip you should be fine. Just shop around a bit
My work will cover the $3k, so figured I should try to use it
OP, I believe theyre saying the opposite. That anything besides UHaul/MovingYourself will be over $3k
Piece of cake. Friend did it for a much wider distance and it was around 3k (she just had a 1 bedroom though). The arrival range will very between 1-2 weeks however. You can pay double to have it arrive much quicker
Hahaha, amazing! Thanks 😂
Did DC to NYC many years ago but used Roadway. They were fantastic. They seem to be getting more popular lately so might be increasing prices but worth checking. They (at the time) were the most reasonably priced because they do truck shares
And this is with me packing myself
Rent your own truck, box yourself, hire day of movers on both ends to load and unload and you’ll be right around your budget
Moving a 1BR a few blocks here can cost close to $3k. We moved from a 1BR to a 2BR literally in the building next door and it was like $1K
Wow, that’s insane!
Best bet is to get a uhaul and pay people on both sides to load and h losd
