Any recommendations/thoughts/ideas for more "appealing" performance review ratings (either a 4 or 5 point scale)? What I've found are variations of Needs Improvement, Meets Expectations, Exceeds Expectations, Far Exceeds Expectations, Sets a New Standard.

It would depend on what you are trying to do with a rating scale. The most simplified version would be “meets expectations” or “fails to meet expectations”. That is rarely appealing so I have more often seen the “below, meets, exceeds expectations” used when trying to simplify. If you determine bonuses or other material decisions on ratings, you may want to consider a broader scale for bigger differentiation. If there is no reward or outcome attached to the rating, my advice would be the 3-point scale that differentiates over performers. If you add more than that, you will want to have a system in place that gives your managers clear benchmarks that guide the scale so that it is consistently deployed and you avoid the legal risks of bias, adverse impact and unfair performance management practices.

I've never seen Sets a New Standard, so thanks for exposing me to that. I also like that your sample scale tips toward the positive side. What's wrong with what you've found that you're not getting what you want from the scale? It's clear-cut, at least.

I'm not sure any cut-and-dried scale is going to be really appealing. What I've found most useful is giving lots of comments/written feedback to explain my rating. That's generally most helpful to employees.

I would be starting my EB1C GC process very soon and I would be eligible for PP since my PD is June 2021. So assuming everything goes fine, I will have my i140 in around 3 months considering my firm takes 1-1.5 months for documentation. I am not going for concurrent filing since my wife will come here after 4-5 months. I am wondering if there will be any cooling period because of my wife’s late arrival to the states for filing i485 or we can file as soon as she is here. Contd.

I applied for a Manager role. It is available for the 3rd time in almost 2 years. My 2nd interview with GM, AGM, and HRD started with them unanimously agreeing on my ability to do the job at a high level. They didn’t hire me because I wasn’t “an HR Cheerleader” and said I was more suitable for a “real HR Manage role”…. They then opened another specialist job and encouraged me to apply. Any insight on what to make of this?

I was recently rejected for a position I was highly interested in and they rejected me based on my lack of experience with working for a bigger company. Otherwise, I know I was qualified. They have about 700 employees and I currently work with about 100 employees. How can I prepare for my future interviews where I can show that I can successfully transition and handle more employees as an HR Generalist? I’m super bummed about this rejection but I know I need to continue applying…. ☹️

Job security, maintaining similar pay up in the air.
