I’m sending an email to female partner in a leadership position (never met) to set up a meeting to introduce myself. I interviewed for a job at a new company, and the role would be a huge pivot for me. When asked, I gave the absolute minimum I would be willing to accept (my current salary) since I have no experience in the area. The company came back and offered an interview for a different role, much closer to the job I currently do. One thing I struggle to remind myself of is you can only lose so much from a bad investment but gains from a good investment are (sorta) unlimited. If your starting position is $10,000 and the value halves, you're down $5,000. But if the value of a separate position doubles, you're now up a total of $5,000.

I think learning this will help me reach my FIRE goals by eliminating a lot of emotion and impulse in my investment decisions.

Here's mine: I was working in the call center and I was explaining to a customer that he had used up all his credit and that's why he couldn't surf the Internet on his phone. He started to insult me for 8 minutes and, due to company policies, I could not hang up until he had finished.
