Has anyone noticed that busy season is changing into a marathon, not a sprint? I’m working close to 60 billable hours/week year round, and 70+ Feb - April. Is this a bigger trend?
What happens if you don’t hit your billable hours? I am a first-year that had a very slow February and slow start to March. I’ve been reaching out to various teams for work but things seem slow now & I’m worried that I’m not going to hit my 1800 target.
I’ve never worked at a firm, only public interest and have no idea how to do billable hours.
I’m a 2017 associate in NYC biglaw. I logged approx. 2300 billable hours in 2019. Is that light, normal or heavy in the biglaw market for RE associates at my level? Thanks in advance for thoughts.
How much nonbillable time is too much? I’m a second associate at a midsized firm and I have 30-50 non billable hours each month. An associate at another firm told me this was really high. Thoughts?
Any diplomatic tips to get interns/juniors to work faster? Without having ever experienced the hectic nature of being in the office, ours seem to be working at a snail’s pace (3 billable hours to copy 4 blogs over to a different platform? With no SEO or image research? Dream on... 🐌) and considering it to be working under pressure. I’m not expecting the world from them and understand it’s a learning experience... but also want them to be working faster to be able to take more on. Unreasonable?
I'm told I need to give more billable work to a new paralegal. This reduces my billable hours, which have recently started to slow down. I have no financial incentive to do so as I do not receive a portion of her billed work..Is it a common practice for an associate attorney to receive a portion of their paralegals billed work?
I can't wait 'til the day I can quit. As audit ain't nothing but bullshit. Audit programs won't be a bore. Time entry won't be a chore. Realization, billable hours will be no more.
For drafting a stock purchase agreement for first few shots as a junior/mid level, how many billable hours spent are appropriate?
Opinions and any information regarding billable hours and quality of work life at Stockwell, Harris, Woolverton & Helphrey...anything info appreciated!
So EY Advisory, Deloitte Advisory, Grant Thornton, etc have recently mandated 45 billable hours/wk, up from 40. Clearly this isn't firm-specific. Anyone have any insights on what's really going on?
Anyone else completely mail it in after giving their 2 weeks? Major senioritis for me rn. Probably had 2 billable hours today. Maybe
How to deal with not being staffed on deals and seeing others in your year be staffed? When asking partners directly for work, they refer you to the staffing partners. When asking staffing partners (repeatedly), they say “thanks for interest, we will have something soon.” Weeks and weeks pass by and you’re always below where you should be for billable hours (at this point, very far below). All reviews are essentially perfect and no negative feedback. Extremely frustrating and discouraging.
Laughing in billable hours
2,158 hours contracted a year. Tax season: 55 hour week minimum with 90% billable time. You?
How do people stay motivated when they’ve already hit their billable goal (year ends Dec 31)? I still have projects piling up I can’t get myself to do.
What advice would you give to a new associate who starts soon but whose billable hours do not start to count until January 2022? Still bill a lot? Try and internally network more? Both?

If you were looking to exit Big 4 Consulting, what positions would you be targeting? I have done a little of everything with no specialization (great performance reviews across the board). But now a little unsure of what my skills really are from an employer POV.
I’m ~7 weeks pregnant and although super happy about it, I’m also really struggling with work now. I feel tired and sick all the time. I’ve told the ED but rest of my team don’t know yet and I’d prefer to keep it that way. Is it normal to keep trying to go on, or should I be taking time off sick? I’m the (J)EM and we’re 3 weeks into a 10 week study with a challenging client. I’d REALLY like to get designated this cycle hence want to push through but I’m struggling to perform at my beat
Has anyone starting trying to get pregnant after starting at a new firm or did you wait at least a year ?

Does anyone know if MBB (Toronto) is hiring a lot these days? Currently working at big 4 (manager) with no case interview experience/ no mba … thinking it would at least take me 2-3 months to prep and network. Would trying to get in by Jan be too late? Also, my spouse is thinking of potentially moving to the states next year. Do you know if US MBB helps new hire with their H1B visa? (Understand it may be difficult but want to check if it’s worth trying)
