Keep the vert low for a bit. Even pivot to roads for a week or two. Do mountain leg exercises (check out trail runner) to maintain muscle memory.
I had shin splints in high school and couldn’t figure out how to prevent it until I was told what causes it. Basically running or lifting (think calf raises) only work the parts of your calf muscle that extend your foot towards the ground. You run a lot I assume so you’re getting a lot of work on those muscles, but the ones that “pull” your foot towards your shin are being neglected. What helped me was having my friend hold my feet down while I was sitting on the ground with my legs extended, and “pulling” my feet towards my shin with resistance. 3 sets of 20 every day did the trick.
